Bad ign. switch (common), battery cable or connectors, rodent chewed your wiring (it happens), blown fuse, bad alternator, bad starter. Process of elimination needed.

+1... durametric are built for Porsches,

The others are just to generic... plus, the airbag reset is a godsend if you like to do DIY's.

As for the airbag lights with the generic reader... forget it. Can't even read those.

Sounds like an alternator..

CEL came on tonight. Evap Emission Control System Leak (large) code PO 455
1999 996, tiptonic, 118miles, New gas cap from local dealer back in Dec. the first time the light came on.

CEL came on in DEC, then Jan, 7th and then again tonight. same code, cleared with a code reader borrowed from my brother.

Next step???

Other possible problems:
vaccum leak in the EVAP system in or around the canister.
faulty pressure sensor on the top of the gas tank

My guess is the ignition switch, which is also referred to as the ray gun. easy fix hour tops, if when it says nothing all the lights work and the horn blows it's the switch. good luck!
