muffler hack question...
muffler hack question...
i did the pse hack and love it.. craving more..
thinking of adding a second bypass from inlet to outlet (bypassing muffler alltogether)
using a 1.5" bypass, how much louder do you guys think it would be? minimal? considerable?
i'm no scientist, but guessing the exhaust would take the path of least resistance, it should be louder, but more muffled than bypass pipes..
opinions?

There are a probably a hundred + threads on this over at rennlist (well a lot anyway). You are discussing the difference between the MK1 mod and MK2. MK2 is shown in your picture; MK1 is what you are contemplating. MK1 is much louder. MK2 is better suited to 3.6L cans. In fact, I just gave away a set of the MK2 cans in the 3.4 variety...
Here is "the" PSE mod thread over on Rennlist. It has loads of information including descriptions and pics of both mods, installation innstructions, sound clips, etc. Here is another thread.
IMO, the best bang for the buck in terms of exhaust sound is a set of Fabspeed bypass pipes. A used set goes for around $200, and they are nice and loud. Great for the track (including loss of muffler weight!)

from what i have read, bypass pipes, while great for the track, will not work for my dd. (cell phone, stero, headaches, etc.) never heard in person though..
thx. the attached pic is of my 3.6 cans with the pse mod (mk2) i already had done. i am adding the second bypass (mk1) (white arrow) in addition.

As for the neighbors, that's a different story...

result..
sweeeeet! no drone or vibration at all.. same tone, louder volume. minimal differece from stock inside the cabin at cruising speed (around town and freeway). phone and stereo still in play no problem.
beautiful aggressive roar under accelleration (normal and heavy) mostly from 2800 rpm up. i would say 20% volume increase from first pse mod which was already a great improvement over stock.
outside the car... wow! sounds like the great sports car it is!!

zero drone/resonance in any gear at any rpm.
...and i know what i'm talking about. i had a custom exhaust built for my 2000 boxster s. 2-3k rpm was like a 10k watt 42" subwoofer! above 3k was bad a$$ though!
anyone local is welcome to come hear it. i'll be at eurosunday tomorrow at pavillions.

i purchased a tight radius stainless mandrel u tube the first mod (hard to find and not cheap) ..cost me $70 for it in standard gauge. way overkill.
the second time i just had the shop use aluminized steel which will work equally as well and won't rust.

I have a set of Custom High Flow Cat Pipes that were made by Fast Intentions that would add a nice sound. See my approved ad in the classifieds.
