I just want to replace my factory head unit with one that has better sound quality, and ipod hookup, possibly a flip out GPS. Single DIN.

got ya...crutchfield sells an adapter for a blaupunkt unit i will look it up for you....it will plug into the porsche power and speaker plugs in the cars harness and give you raw wires to splice into the wires on your new unit.

I wanted to do the same thing...but i did not want to get rid of the factory look so i use and RCA output adapter and 3 MTX amps to power very expencive components in the doors and a 10" sub i made for the back seat.

Im not saying that you have to buy a blaupunkt headunit...it is the adapter that is necessary to adapt you factory harness to universal wires so you can install any head unit.

blaupunkt is owned by harman/becker GMBH which is the campany that makes the porsche radio...if you look at the back of a blaupunkt radio from the same year as the porsche radio you have it will be the same...same plugs and connectors.

The Below to adapters have female plugs to plug into the 2 large plugs that would normally plug into the back of your radio...if you cut the below adapters then it will give you raw wires out of the 2 female plugs....The plugs A and B from you car will plug into those harnesses, you will see the adapters on the crutchfield site...one is black and one is brown....see the below likns

Yep, you want the blaupunkt to RCA adapters and that allows you to connect any headunit with RCA outputs to be used with your stock amp.

I'm pretty sure that all of the cars (including the base system) have a seperate amplifier up front in the trunk. I know that's the case in my '01 C4.

Are there any adapter harnesses to plug from the car to an aftermarket amp without cutting up the stock harness. I have integrated a Kenwood DNX 5120 into my 2001 Carrera 2 with the double din kit from eurospeed on ebay and it is facotory but I need more power than the stock amp puts out

I want to connect the factory preamp connector to an aftermarket amp and the the amp output to the factory speaker connectors. I think you are putting me on the right trail, but seeing as I am 43 and last had experience installing cassette head and kenwood 6x9 triax speakers in the package shelf of my 1970 Mach 1 I could use the expertise of the younger generation electronics gurus. Just don't want to cut up stock wiring or have to run new cables if I don't have too. Looking for 150 watts per channel, nothing crazy.
Thanks again, Steve
