What's a fair asking price??
What's a fair asking price??
If you were selling the 2004 40th anniversary 996 described below, what would be a fair asking price??
Highlights:
Highlights:
- 1 owner car
- The car has just under 43k miles
- RMS repaired by at approximately 6,000 miles and has been bone dry ever since.
- The 15,000 mile and 30,000 mile services were completed on time
- All maintenance work was performed above and beyond factory recommendations (I have records)
- The car has never experienced any major damage
- brake pads (less than 100 miles)
- battery (less than 100 miles)
- windshield (less than 500 miles)
- transmission (less than 4,000 miles)
- clutch (less than 4,000 miles)
- the tires are in excellent shape. I'm guessing there's about 7/32" tread depth
- The vertical panels (doors, fenders, quarter panels, etc.) are all free of dings, scratches, etc.
- There is a slight hickey (outwards ding) in the hood (trunk) of the car. Apparently, I closed the hood (trunk) with a rigid item in the storage compartment. The hickey is only noticed when looking at the hood at the right angle in bright sunlight.
- Upon close inspection, you'll notice a few minor pebble chips on the part of the hood that wasn't protected by clear bra.
- The interior is in excellent condition and still has the rich Porsche leather smell.
- I once backed into a pole in a parking lot and had to have the rear bumper replaced.
- The front passenger side fender was repainted while I had a clear bra on the car. I didn't realize the newly painted section didn't match section that was covered by the clear bra until the clear bra was removed. It isn't a gross color mis-match (in my opinion) but it is noticable at close distance.
- Navigation system
- Comfort seats (powered and heated with leather backs)
- Bose
- CD changer
- Rear wiper

Hello Livenupe,
I've been watching your thread over at rennlist. If it was my car, I would remove the clear bra and get that fender repaired. Nobody wants to buy an expensive car then have to get it repaired. I think people who are shopping for these cars want them as close to mint as possible. I also believe that asking too cheap of a price makes shoppers suspicious of a hidden problem. Also for me as a potential buyer an extended warranty would be a real plus. With the repaired fender I would set the price somewhere in the low 40s. FYI, I paid 51k (the seller was asking 57k) for the same car with the same options back in Sept. 07. My car had 19,000 miles, in near mint condition, clear bra and an extended warranty to Sept. 2010. Good luck with the sale.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw this post yesterday. Fix the paint issues with the fender and the hood. Most of the posts in the RL thread revolve around these two minor issues.
Hang in there Livenupe. Also, keep in mind that unlike most cars the market for 911s is more 'national'. While you may live in sunny LA there may be buyers in colder areas who are not exactly in a hurry to purchase. These potential buyers might 'thaw' out in the spring.
One other consideration. You might consider buying an extended warranty that can be transfered to the new owner. This might facilitate a quicker sale. And if not, you can cancel the warranty for a refund on a prorated basis.
