yeah, with the C4... I guess they have the extra drive shaft to remove... and in turn, they give you the shaft.

Getting a 10% discount for cash but the mechanic has a great reputation so I'd rather have it done right. I'd love to do it myself but I haven't been under a car since college when I replaced the clutch in my 280zx turbo. Prior to that, I did a lot of replacing on most cars I owned. I think I'll wait for an easier job like the exhaust before I crawl under the new baby.

you should also get a (i think) 10% discount on parts with a PCA membership at the dealer.

C4 doesnt make the transmission removal any more difficult, sure its a couple extra bolts but nothing major. Why this one got expensive is because of the Tiptronic removal. The tiptronics leak far less frequently, but still can leak. And when they do, they are more expensive on the labor side of things.

when you bought the car, had it ever had this problem before as far as you know?
is the bottom of the engine dirty with old dried up oil? or was it clean when you bought it?

Everything looked fine. Admittedly, I didn't have the car checked out by an independent mechanic when purchased. Foolish for a p-car and maybe in general but I've always had good luck with my prior german cars (545i, clk430). Lesson learned. I just wish my first bill was for some nice mods. I think my first mod will be the PSE as the Schnell intake was a bust. What was I expecting for $100...

It must be the tip as speed demon suggested. Replacing it in my '01 C4 was $800.

Yeah Trader, I don't know what the Schnell intake did for me, can't tell anything. At least I didn't spend the extra for the Fabspeed intake.
