Has anyone tried out this brand? My understanding is that it's a Japanese made BBS rim.

Any good? The design is a bit bland (as opposed to the techart formula and HRE 542R)...

However I was told that this is very light in weight.

 

The new forged version coming direct from Sportec Japan uses an APP Forging. The original Sportec Mono 10 is a bbs made ball polished wheel....

 

So which one is better? The BBS or the one directly from Sportec Jap?

"Better" is a matter of preference - give the guys at Sportec a call and find out their thoughts....I believe the Sportec Japan ones are readily available....(Personally, I'd go after the BBS made ones)
