996 lap time for V.I.R.?
996 lap time for V.I.R.?
Does anyone know the lap time for a stock 3.4 or 3.6 996 at Virginia Int'l Raceway? I realize this can vary by driver and conditions. But there must be a commonly accepted time for this car. I'm interested in a comparison to more current cars. And VIR seems to have a lot of lap time data out there for various makes and models. Thanks.
i.e.
Most of the cars were driven by Car and Driver Magazine test drivers.
There is obviously a margin for error since the cars were not all tested on the same day and of course there is more to a great car than lap times.

Lutz has a long way to go before his vette outclassees a Porsche. I drove a 2007 bone stock Z06 at road america last summer in one of the Milwaukee DE's and had no problem running with a 996 turbo S. Granted, the turbo S investment may have played a role in the other guy's throttle input. Not that we were racing or anything. And when the brakes go, it's Chevy parts, not Por$che. The car has been bulletproof over several DE's.
the purpose of my original question is out of curiosity regarding how the Cobalt SS would keep up with a 996 C2. after seeing my friend's Mazdaspeed3 embarass Boster S's at BIR. pedigree means less on the track if the car is fast. and there's a strange pleasure in seeing a child seat equipped hatchback out pace a germanic tool of speed.

Perfect case in point is a buddy of mine who's an instructor could pretty much make up 200hp deficits in his car (with stock suspension) and fly by M3's. Expereince on track makes up for a huge amount on track.
Not taking away from a vette as it's easily driven faster than a 911 and it's a fantastic car with great performance for dollar factor.
Yea... I was driving a 87 944S with wicked oil consumption issues so i only had like 150 hp and i flew past gt3 rsr's and everybody in this DE at Blackhawk Farms Raceway the two times iv been there im 18 and im pretty much out of DE and into the clubracing status just need hours... but at road america i turned out a 2:51.44 and not above 3 minutes anymore because of traffic. I would have placed 3rd in my class if i entered my sprint race that weekend :|
