Saw a GTR driving yesterday
First time I've seen one in person at all. I didn't even know it was a GTR until I really looked at it. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but damn, that car is FUGLY. It looks like a pig. No style, no elegance, no sleekness, no nothing. It's just big, bulky, & like a blob. Not hating, just saying. What was Nissan thinking when they priced it? But worst of all, WTF was Nissan thinking when they thought they could compare it to the 911. Speed isn't everything. There's a lot of cars faster than Porsches these days, technology has advanced a lot, but that doesn't mean they're worth mentioning in the same sentence. I'd even take a Cayenne over the GTR... I mean for that price, you could get a used 360 these days, now THAT'S a car with style
This of course is just my opinion. Not trying to offend anyone. Everyone is entitled to their own ideas & preferences. Just would like to share mine & see what others thoughts are.

I think it's a decent looking car. No comparison to the 911s looks or Ferrari's ha!
Now to the speed, I've heard that Porsche actually purchased a GTR and ran it around the Nurburgring and even with their very best driver they could not match the claimed lap time that Nissan claimed. Anyone else heard about this? Could just be a rumor

Ugly car, great performance, good value IMHO... yes, maybe as much as a used 360 to buy... but far less to own.
But it doesn't have the "feel" of a Porsche. I thought that statement was hogwash when I had a 350Z, till I tried a 996... same with my buddy who was going for an SL55, till he tried a C4S...
That's true with what happened with Porsche running a GTR. Some say Nissan used race-oriented tires... other say Nissan's driver was more experienced with the car. I figure there are SO many variables with the Nurburgring... unless you're running back-to-back, there are lots of possibilities.
Lots of debate on the GTR... that's fine, but I'm gonna go enjoy my car...

Yeah, it most definitely happened. Nissan could have tweaked the car, been using the NISMO or Spec V. Maybe the Porsche driver was taking it easy for number sake. Plenty of variables, especially since each GT-R motor is different. Either way here's a link to the article you were talking about: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/n...hurt-yourself/ On a side note, Nissan is (or at least was) refusing to cover transmission damages from using the launch control. Grant there are always 2 sides to every story, so who knows how often it was used or what the deal was. There was a huge debate over it on the VA Tech car club forum over wether or not it should be honored. In case anyone's interested: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/13/c...owners-busted/
I think it should def be honored. If they put such a feature on a car, shouldn't the car be able to handle it?? I'm sure Nissan knew that the tranny was weak but they did nothing to correct it. For a car that cost close to $80k its tranny should def be able to handle the cars power. If it can't maybe Nissan should send out a recall and remove the LC.

A guy I know with a GTR said that they've made a program change to the launch control so it's not as hard on the transmission. Apparently it's a software update that the dealer can do. Just what I've heard...
If the guy owns one then I don't doubt him. I have a buddy who was getting a GTR and his ZR-1 within a month or two of each other. Sadly I haven't heard from him since they were both set to arrive. When I'm at home this weekend I'll try and find him, see what he has to say about it.
I too did not like the GTR looks, at first. I now have a red one and it grows on you, fast. My highly modded C4S is a different car, refined, high RPM hp, comfortable, looks can't be beat. But don't knock it till you try it, the GTR rips, it puts a smile on my face. Will
