Ok, I'm finally pulling the trigger. I've narrowed it down to four possible cars:

1. ´99 coupe, manual, full leather etc. original engine, 50000 miles.
2. ´98 coupe, manual, full leather etc, new engine at 50000 miles, now 80000.
3. ´00 coupe, tiptronic, full leather etc, new engine at 60000, now 82000 miles.
4. ´99 coupe, manual, full leather etc, original engine, 80000 miles.

There are some much lower mileage cars on the market, but somehow I feel safer to buy a car that's not a garage queen. All cars mentioned above have a somewhat similar spec, so there's no difference. The price is also in the same bracket. I know how many of you feel about tiptronic, so let's not get into that .
The funny thing is that the car number 4's interior is in amazing condition. The seats show hardly any wear at all. Not that any of those look bad at all.

So, which one and why?

 

I'd suggest #1 simply for the lower miles.

 

Did you really find four cars in your area with full leather, or are they not C2 cars?

 

I like the idea of Number 2 or 3. If the motors were done correctly they would be your lowest engine mile cars. .... Mine is a Tiptronic and I love it. The car has enough power to overcome the auto and still drives great. There are times I miss a standard, but then I get into my BMW. The Auto/Manual question is a personal one, play your own game here. When I autocross mine I just put it in drive and go! If I want a lower gear around a corner I bump the throttle just before the turn and do just fine.
Get the Pre Purchase Inspection.......and enjoy.

I just looked at where you are from....Hmmmm if you are going to be driving in snow and ice I would recommend the standard. You do have more control then. I normally do not drive mine in the really bad stuff....not that it gets that bad here in Oklahoma. Best of luck.

#2 or 3, no questions. While the chasis' may have a few more miles, the new engines have far fewer miles and should have many of the updates fround on new engines. The weakest part of these cars, especially the early ones is the engine.

 

Me I go with #1, if the motor was going to go it probably would have. From what I keep reading is ANY porsche motor is subject to a sudden early death. Get the one with the color combo and options you want.

 

Mine went at about 52,000. Go with a newer engine!!! Unless you have an extra $10,000-$15,000 just as insurance.

By the way, don't buy any of them with a PPI.

 

Well, Germany and Sweden make up a bit larger area.. Helsinki, no way .
The market here is way too small, but there's a good selection in Germany, and Sweden too. I won't be driving it in winter, so no worries there.

 

Isn't this year a 993? Whichever you choose make sure to get a PPI before buying.

 

#2.... new engine and a 6 speed.....

 

Nope, in Europe the 996 was launched in 1997. And yes, I'll be getting a PPI for sure. I'm sort of leaning towards tiptronic, because I'm 6ft4 and there only adjustment for reach in the steering column...

 

# 2, no brainer...

 

#1. Original motor with only 50k miles? Probably has non e-gas throttle which is a plus in my book. Might possibly be equipped with limited slip. Just make sure it's not leaking oil.

With that being said, I bought my 99 with 28K miles, with everything serviced, including the RMS [rear main seal]. It had a new clutch, 19" rims springs, exhaust, intake and very very clean.

 

#2 because its the lowest mile in the amount of time if options and interior wear is equal. All cars would/may need suspension replacement soon anyway.
