PSE Cracking, Sputtering, Popping

So when my 2003 C2 is started cold it cracks, sputters, and pops for the first couple of minutes with PSE.

So, how do I get it to do this all the time? It sounds cool.

I'll try that tonight, but I don't think it will work

I'm pretty sure it's the engine computer that has it in some kind of rich cold startup mode. When the noises go away, it also lowers the idle rpms.

every car comes with a cold start mode designed to warm up the cats quickly to achieve less pollution. car runs rich when cold, which wastes fuel.

i'm not sure why you would want this all the time. if there is a lot of rattling in the exhaust, it could be a sign of deterioration in either your cat or muffler. such failure is covered for 10 yrs from original delivery in CA. Just food for thought!

In older cars, if you had the sounds you describe when the engine was cold, but they went away when it was warm -- it meant that you probably had a manifold leak that was letting cold air in. When the engine warmed up, it closed the crack & the symptoms went away. Not sure what would cause this (even though you like it) on a newer car with such extensive computer controls -- but it could be the same thing.
