California Window Tint Law...what are my options?
and by his posts, he can't even afford a car that can do 66mph... My trailer hauler is an old 96 Jeep Cherokee (307k) that tops out at 75.... but the old, tired engine complains at 60. So it is possible!
It is good advice to roll down your window and have your drivers license and insurance/registration in your left hand showing out the window with the car shut off. Usually, if you're direct and respectful there will be no problem. I've been let go with a good number of warnings for speeding because of this procedure. If that fails then I revert to name dropping (LE and Politicians) and the occasional call to a Cpt. to get off with warnings. I've always kept my tinted windows down, documents at the ready, and most overlook me not having my front plate (I don't even have the bracket mounted).
The money situation is bad.. I'm in Chicago where everyone is corrupt
and its common place for CPD to follow nice cars.... good ole connections.
Permagrin.

I fly out of LAX twice a week and all cars that do not have front license plates in the parking lots will get tickets. I see it every time I'm there. They actually look for cars with no front plates on purpose. Team of enfocement actively look for them. How nice is that! They should be looking for bad guys not missing front plates. Therefore, I drive a Camry to the aiport because people can open the doors into an hit it with luggage carts and my Porsche Super Cars with no front plates won't get tickets or damage from idiots that park and don't care. Never park your car at LAX without a front plate.

It's much easier to ticket cars in a parking lot than catch criminals.
Well, my experience with tinted windows in So Cal is as follows. If you live in, or frequent areas where:
1. people consider a Porsche an exotic car (i.e. your car stands out)
2. there are a lot of ricers
3. there are a lot of CHP cruising around
then you are more likely to get busted for tinted windows, for the sole reason that your car stands out, and that cops in those areas tend to be less forgiving of people who "break the law" and who own an expensive/flashy car. Also just as an obvious side note, bad/wreckless driving habits will curse you everywhere you go of course..... But back to the point; I'm from the West LA area (Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Weho, etc.). Most of those cities have local police departments who could give two ****s about tinted windows. Probably because they don't need the money as bad...... I NEVER got pulled over for tinted windows. ALL of my cars had full limo tint, and 50% tint on the front windshield (yes, I was able to see outside at night just fine lol). Even in some of my flashier cars (red track prepped NSX that was louder than a bat out of hell) I never even got pulled over for speeding, much less for tinted windows. I also drive like a grandpa however, so I minimize the risk of getting pulled over PERIOD.

Oh god.... just obey the laws and you have no problems.
If you tint your windows, just realize you may get caught. There are some tint shops that will remove/re-install your tint for a an extra charge when you get your car tinted, just ask.

Dude (lawabiding ctzn), chill out! Off your high horse there for a while. Apparently you've never driven a car with tint. It's great. I was driving under the speed limit and got pulled over for tint only. Odd, my previous car had darker tint and drove that for 3 years.
Every state has Applications for "Special Needs", fill out the Form for Visual Problems that require you to have tint and have a Eye Doctor Sign it. Get tint legal, or just carry a copy in your car and if you get pulled over show the Cop you submitted your app. They will leave you alone.
I just have my local crooked cop sign off on the fix it tint ticket and buy him a beer.
