Thumbs down Ripped front floor mat. Is this a warranty issue?

Yesterday I was cleaning my car. After washing the outside I took the driver's side floor mat out and started to shake it. I had turned my head away as not to breath in the dust. After a few shakes I saw a piece of yarn of carpet fly up in the air. When I looked down I saw the mat had torn right at the 90 degree angle that goes under the gas pedal.

Should this be covered by Porsche? I know it is not an expensive item but my car is an 03 and the mat is not old and worn. I've had and cleaned many mats like this and never experienced any thing like this. I mean who doesn't shake out their car mats?

What does everybody think? Should I just go buy a new set and forget it or call the dealer and cry?

Yeah, I agree with Itzkirb. Ask and see what they say. The mat sets sell for $140 or so from the dealer I think, and I doubt you can get them individually. That could buy you a very nice dinner.

From '02 forward Porsche went to a new OEM manufacturer and the mats suck **** , on my OO I had 45k on it and the mats were good as new, on the 03 I have gone through 2 sets in 17k...my advisor gave me new mats under warranty even though Porsche is NOT backing that item....typical Porsche BS...they want $$$$ thats why the market is flooded with CGT's at MSRP and the Enzo sells at 2X MSRP

OK, so it is not covered but I will ask and see. Is there a good aftermarket alternative to the OEM if they say "no"? I will avoid them in the future is this is going to be the case.

Poursha is infamous around these parts
One idea is to buy the Boxster mats, so you're just buying the 2 front ones (the Carrera mats come with the 2 rears as well, and cost more).

Just went to the dealer and I think they are going to get me new mats. Pretty cool. And I saw a CGT while I was there. Wow, what a car. Very little clearance. I don't know how you could drive this on a street. Oh yea, they wouldn't even let me sit in it.
