Bought first Porsche (Questions)

Hello everyone,im new to the board, bought my first Porsche last year 1999 Carrera2 cab tiptronic with 21000,car is perfect and all original,i didnt do alot of homework, after the purchase i started reading about the problems with the engines, the car runs perfect no leaks or any problems, had the oil changed at a porsche dealer and they said the car was real clean and couldnt find anything wrong with it,guess im just paranoid hearing the horror stories, paid $38000 which i can see now is too much(guess i was amazed at the condition),hard to get a warranty because of the age,but anyways i had a couple of questions maybe some of you can give me some answers

1) how high can you go on the RPM's before it is considered abuse,i drive in the manual mode most of the time and rarely go over 4000,also is it bad to drive in the manual mode all the time

2) what would be signs for any problem starting and any important things to do to prevent them

BTW im for sure hooked on these cars, there is just something special about them

Thank You in advance for any info

Hi there, welcome
Answer to 1) The answer would be right up to redline, so 7k rpm. Anymore and it would do damage, the car is made to run that high
2) a sure tell sign is if the engine leaks engine oil on the ground, means the Rear main seal and the intermediate shaft seal needs to be replaced. A stiff clutch on this car usually means the clutch is lower in lifespan etc

no clutch its a tiptronic,so running it at 4000-4500 in the manual mode is not a problem right?

Yes but don't run too much lower, don't want to bog the engine down. P-cars were made to be driven so do it!! Don't worry about any engine problems or RMS. It's like sitting around and saying well I may get cancer or I may have a stroke. Live life! Enjoy your Porsche!!! Do the maint as scheduled in the manual and you'll be fine. If something happens to pop up, you'll know (oil drops, CEL, etc.) Enjoy your car!!

Cool car I just bought a black 99'. Driving 4000-4500rpm is fine, Just keep them down until the car is warmed up. I shift at 5k or 6k driving around town. Have fun with it!
