I just watched a Car and Driver show and they said the SL 600 can do 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds is that true?

According to Mercedes-Benz.

 

Those numbers are under-rated as always from Mercedes-benz just as the HP/TQ figures usually are. Additionally, Mercedes usually quotes 0-62MPH (0-100Km) times.

In regards to the 3.6 secs/11.9 quarter mile. There's much debate on the mbworld.org forums on that. It's easily possible with great traction STOCK (BFG drag radials, perfect temp/track conditions, etc,etc.) though as I argued that particular SL600 isn't representative of what you would buy off the dealer lot. That SL600 sounds more like an Renntech ECU/trans tweaked SL600. I've seen 4.1-4.3 secs as more accurate 0-60 times, traction-limited.

Stock SL600 appear to make 600+ft-lbs of tQ (quote 590ft-lbs) and ~550HP (quoted 493HP) STOCK. Ironically, same as the SL55 though unlikely. Just like the E55's 469HP which most bet is truly the same 493HP as any of the SL55/CL55/S55 V-8 Kompressors. MBZ Marketing at it's best.

 

A friend of mine tells me after 2-3000 breakin my new C55 is going to be unruly...I have seen 4.9 quoted but on MB world.org I have seen mid 4's...this is a norm asspirated car not a supercharged 5.5l...
