this issue seems to come up every week or so, Why don't wee make it a sticky. Judging from people I've talked to, and what I've read the chances of engine failure are significantly reduced after around 50,000 miles and are virtually non existent after 75,000 miles. So far I've seen no engine failures over 80k. I have 117,000 miles on my supposedly failure prone 99' and engine failure is not really on my list of worries

Like anything in life, those who have crap happen will be the ones most likely to be vocal about it. The engines that blow up are the ones you're gonna hear about. You don't often hear the news reporting that John Smith went to work and got home safely today. Or that Jane Doe went to work and got home safely yesterday.

On the 2005 C6 Corvettes (my year), there was an issue with the crank pulley bolts backing out. Which meant that there were some very vocal owners telling disaster stories about shredded engine bays. If it had happened to mine (or if it happens while I'm driving to work tomorrow) you can bet I'll be online ASAP to tell my story. But in the 4+ years I've had it, I've thought about it only a handful of times with most of it being right after I bought it and found out about the problems. I certainly don't drive around worrying about a crank pulley freely roaming around under my hood.

How common is it? Only Chevy really knows and they're surely not gonna publish it. I wouldn't expect Porsche to publish RMS/IMS caused kabooms either.

But then again, I have extended warranties on both the Vette and the C4S.
