Cool question about car not starting

hey all, i have a 2001 996

the problem is, when i pump gas and turn the car Off... when i go to start the car back up, it takes about 20 seconds of continuous starting for it to start.

i tried leaving the car on...and right when i put the nozzle in the tank, the idle starts to get a little more rough, and will only resume to normal when i stop pumping.

the car drives perfect...this is the only time it acts up. CEL is on also, but came up as a catalytic converter gone bad.

is that the problem? or is it maf? any ideas?

How low are you letting your fuel tank get? It could be a fuel pump or pick-up issue. What is the outside temp when this happens? Vapor lock?
Of course, the CEL could be telling you what the actual problem is. It sounds like you are due to visit the dealer...

Gas Problem

Sometimes the tank vent valve in the rear(engine bay) of the car in sticks open causing all of the evap fumes to get sucked in the intake when you start the car, especially at time of fill up.The valve is located right above the alternator on your car..Its pretty cheap to replace , but if you do want to test it you need a vacume pump w/ a gauge and a porsche tester to release the valve and see if it works still. If you loose all of the vacume created then you need the valve replaced.
