Fabspeed 996 Dual Style Tips ready and In stock
I guess it doesn't hurt to apply a little pressure to these vendors! For Alex to knock off $150 off the price means they absolutely were way overpriced, and our *****ing didn't fall on deaf ears. They are still too expensive, but certainly a little more in line.
Kudos to the vendor for seeing the light.

That may be true for the Tip price alone, but I think the price reduction level for customers buying the Exhaust + Tips isn't completely fair.
Example:
Normal Tips $350.
Muffler Without Tips $1,095.
Muffler + Normal Tips $1,195.
New Quad Tips $375.
Muffler + New Quad Tips $1,395.
If I were a customer looking to get both Muffler and Tips, I would lose out if I chose the new Quad Tips over the Normal Tips.
What do you guys think?
To be honest, I am in the market for a Muffler + Tips. But I drive a Mk1, and A) Fabspeed has no pics of the Quad Tips on Mk1, and B) The price increase for Quad Tips over Normal Tips for the Muffler + Tip set doesn't make sense.

I too get sick of the Porsche tax. I also see this type of tax applied to home improvements and services in my neighborhood.
Not to defend anyones pricing or markups, What I will say is that I have worked and purchased product from the folks at Fabspeed. They were always very professional and responsive to my questions and concerns. In the past they have offered a nice discount to 6speeders for their products and this may still be available.
If you are interested in their products I would suggest you contact Joe or jay directly and get a exact quote for what are looking to buy. In the end I felt I received a excellent product at a very reasonable price.

Subaru and Ford aftermarket pieces are cheaper. But you guys should consider sales of aftermarket porsche products are much smaller when compared to popular car models and manufacturers. I am sure that the high prices are a combination of "porsche markup" and a much smaller number of sales and potential customers. Somehow, the manufacturers like FabSpeed have to make up for the difference. volume vs. price.
I agree when an item is designed and made specifically and only for the Porsche market by a small manufacturer like Fabspeed. But it falls apart when you compare products made by companies that make nearly the same item for multiple car models and charge double for the porsche part. Especially when the parts are NC machined. Look at suppliers of sway bar links for example. Molded parts are another story. That said as long as we Porsche owners are willing to pay top dollar for our upgrades it is merely good business for the parts suppliers to attempt to maximize their profits. If they can successfully segment the market and capture additional value as good business people they should. Porsche has been doing this for years. You can often find a identical replacement part with a VW name on it that cost 1/2 the Porsche part price. In my business we never base pricing on cost to produce. All pricing is done on the value delivered. Ultimately the market will decide if the price is too high or fair. Would I personally pay $500 plus for a set of tips? No, because I do not place a high enough value on this particular component. Others may disagree and gladly pay. Ultimately the market will decide.

I agree with your point, I was thinking about fabspeed and other small outfits but did not account into consideration the larger manufacturers. A classic example is the ignition switch which is a $12 WW piece or three times as much if it comes through Porsche. Or the wrench to remove the oil filter housing for $33 vs a $9 one in your local autozone (metallic too). And this parts do not even hold any cosmetic value!

We just finished our Dual style tips for the 996 cars 1999-2004. The new tips incorporate a 1 Piece Cast stainless steel internal V for the dual split that bolts onto the muffler for maximum flow and the least amount of restriction with two nice 3.0" and 2.75" polished tips to finish it off. The new tips are all T304 stainless steel and mirror polished to enhance the aggressive style of your Carrera.
- Simple bolt on installation on to Fabspeed mufflers or any aftermarket muffler designed to fit like stock.
- $375 for the set
I can certainly see how the supply/demand argument can be applied when it comes to buying parts for our cars. Compared to say a Ford Mustang GT the numbers of cars sold annually doesn't come close. We are a small number compared to the amount of Mustang owners out there. The R/D come in at high numbers as was mentioned on the 2nd page of this thread and if the volume isn't there to pay for it then the cost per product has to go up to cover it.
I agree, I hate that a basic supercharger kit for a Ford Mustang can cost around $3500 where that same kit designed to work on my 996 costs around $10K. But that is supply and demand. I want it to change but I just don't see that happening.
Would I buy these nice looking tips for the price listed? No. I bought a set of ovals on Ebay for about $80 and I am happy with them for now.

I have to think the price was lowered largely by pressure applied by many on this thread. Had no complaints been posted I'm confident the price wouldn't have budged from the ridiculous over inflated price of over $500. So having had some success, what can we complain about next??
