Red face Satellite Radio install for 2003 996

I have a 2003 911 (996). Has anyone installed a satellite radio right below the stock Bose radio where the CD holder sits? Basically looking to replace the CD holder with a kit to house a Satellite radio and have the final appearance look as if it was built in. I am looking for recommendations on where to find this kit and/or any other suggestions on installing a sattelite radio (seperate componet) into this car where its neatly installed without replacing the stock Bose radio. Thank you in advance.

Also...
Does any one know of a quality South FL Satellite (Porsche experienced) installer for a Sirius radio where the CD box sits?

I got this done to a 2003 turbo

I wanted XM in mine too, but didn't want to replace the entire unit (fiber optic on 2003 turbos).

So I ended up with this setup. It's an FM modulated unit going in through an FM channel.

The sound is not perfect, but it's not bad at all.

I'm very happy with it.

My installer guy had the parts in stock, the back panels to fit DIN are pretty common I believe.

Simon - thats exactly what I am looking for - thank you. Could you send me the name and number (if you have it) of your intaller - I would like to call him to see if he can send me the Sattelite unit and the parts.

It's an Audiovox XM commander, although I think this is the exact same product :

http://www.powerxm.com/commandermt.html

Looks like Audiovox may have stopped making them and turned it over to Terk.

The guys that did my install have gone out of business by the looks of it.
If I remember correctly, the DIN mounting plate came actually in the kit.

Oh, and DIN is a european standard for the size of the slots for car audio.
Single DIN is one slot and double DIN is often the size for navigation units.

Hope this helps.

:-)

Simon.

Simon - Thank you very much, I did go ahead and ordered the Commander unit. One more question - do you know once I remove the CD holder - will I need a new empty DIN box? - or will the radio just fit into that slot once I remove the CD holder, - will I need anything else?

Sirius install

I had the dealership install Sirius in my 996. It works through the FM modulator which has less than best in class sound quality. The antenna is under the plastic cowl cover - doesn't provide the best reception, but it is invisible. My truck has the antenna mounted on the roof and it definitely works far better. Best choice is to get a head unit with satellite radio integrated or a direct connection for better sound quality.
