IPD plenum red paint chipping?

Has anyone noticed if the red Plenum paint inside their Plenum has chipped? If so, is this dangerous for the motor? I have a quarter sized chip of paint that seed to flake off inside and obviously it got sucked into the motor. Will this damage my vehicle or take off performance?

If it doesn't get past the intake valve it could cause breathing problems. If it gets past the valve, it will be history as it will be pulverized and cause no harm.

I know it comes painted, but why? Is it aluminum? What metal is it that requires it to be painted? Just curious.

i think it is so it can be marketed to look like it's high performance. but i dunno if the paint actually makes a difference. I just hope it doesn't post any danger to the valves. You can't see it in the picture, but there was small paint fragments after the plenum that seemed to stick to the rubber connecting the plenum to the intake manifold.

One word: Resize!

I think the reason for the smooth resin inside the pipe is to supposedly help airflow, as the aluminum has a rough surface. Not good that it flakes off though. I'd remove that plenum, as I'm sure more of that resin will flake off. Betcha once people install these plenums, hardly anyone takes them off to inspect the inside. Probably a lot of people out there with these plenums have the same issue. Also, since metal conducts heat more than the original plastic T pipe, you would think they woul've made the IPD plenum out of plastic too...but then, it wouldn't look as expensive and worthy of a $1k asking price. LOL

Since it appears to be a manufacturer's defect, send it back for a replacement.

I am in the machine shop business for aircraft products. Any time we have a part that touches the fuel it has to have a fuel resistant paint to give the metal a chance not to corrode. The fuel and air mix will corrode aluminum very quickly if not treated with the proper paint. I have seen paint chipping before and it usually is the paint manufactures batch that is the culprit.

And what on earth does this have to do with his problem?

There has to be something or the aluminum will corrode and it has to be special paint or the fuel will eat it away
