996 purchase

Hi guys!
I am happy that I found this foruM! The last days I have been looking through various thread (pic thread -niiiice)

So let come to the point:
I am going to live a year in SC, Charleston. Therefor I need a car - so I want to pick a Porsche 911 996 or a Boxster 987.
What would you recommend, when I want to spend max. 26.000 $ incl. Taxes and Stuff?
Is it possible to get a good 996 Cab with <55.000 miles for this price? I have found various cars, but I am not sure if the are really "so" good. Somebody told me that there are no "cheap" good Porsche.

How high are the costs to get the car licensed?

Are there some point I should have a look when I "examine" a car?

I think of getting the Carrera a bit modded - C4s style with Front faceliftlights and 997 GT2 Frontbumper incl. LED-Light. Do you think this will look nice?

The purchase will be done between November and February 2009 - so I try to take the cab-winter-prices

Thanks a lot!

Regards,
gee-man

From the description of your criteria, I would suggest you start with a Boxtser. You'll get a newer car and likely less mileage. If you buy from a Porsche dealer, possibly, some sort of warranty coverage.
Regarding "taxes and stuff", it would be a good idea to check out auto insurance rates. Your age and no US driving experience may raise your rates.
Good Luck

Thanks for your reply!

Mh you might be right.
A lot of 987s are still under warranty coverage.
My head says Boxster and my heart beats for a 911.

The 987 front and interior is nice, but the rear and where to put the golf bag? Or 0-60 in 6.2 sec is quite slow - my 7 Series nearly does the same...

987: ....................... 996:
pro:
-newer technic ......... -it's a 911 the "myth"
-less petrol usage ...... - bit more space
-better front optic ..... - powerful engine
-warranty ........... ...... - better looking rear
..................... ..... - more possible mods
...........................-holds better his value
con:
-rear ..................... - age
-"slow" engine ........... - petrol usage
-often bad "featured".... - no warranty
-nearly no space

The good thing is that a have time until november to think about.

I can afford easily more money, but the car is just a fun car so 26-28.000 will be my limit
