why the delay?

Just bought a 99 porsche carrera 4. It seems that when you step on the gas there is a big delay. Not a delay like the engine slow to repond, more like a delay or slack in the pedal.

I literally have to wait after stepping on the gas for the engine to respond.

Is this normal?

No, what you've described is not normal. My 2000 C4 has no such delay. I know my year car has e-gas, does yours?

That is unusual, as the 99's have cable throttles. People have complained of a throttle response lag, but in the 00+ models.

First thing that comes to mind is Air intake. Maybe your filter is dirty...

Questions: Is the delay all across the rpm range or only in lower rpms? Is it a Tiptronic or a 6-speed manual?
Wouldn't be out of the ordinary in lower ranges, but in higher ones you should get an immediate response.

I just got a K&N air intake kit on mine, the response instant now. If you don't want to replace your entire stock intake, just getting a K&N filter would probably improve it.

its a tiptronic, seems to just delay no matter what the speed. it feels like it would be more of a loose cable than something with the engine, etc.

i mean, i am not talking about even seconds here, but still feels weird. push down the pedal, maybe wait almost a second, then it kicks in. maybe i am being too picky expecting immediate response, but normal vehicles do react quicker.

i think ill check the filter.

'99 C2's were the only throttle cable cars. the C4's were Drive by Wire even in '99.

if your talking about a delay when you accelerate under full or close to full throttle, then it could be your transmission kicking down a gear. Try it in tip-tronic mode
