996 Exhaust Upgrade
have you guys even compared your exhausts to the kreisiegg exhaust? They can even custom make it for cayman's or whatever car you own...it will take at least a month though...small price to pay though to be honest.
I currently own a fabseed exhaust for my 996 carrera 2, and I can't wait to "upgrade" to kreisiegg.

PSE all the way! Not great on weight but the sound is fantastic. I had a set of After Hours but they would not pass the German TUV sound inspection and the drone was too much for me. Some love it though

My 2cents,
I think it all comes down to how much of a dent you want to put into your wallet for the desired sound you seek. Are you a street driver or is tracking the car your goal? Do you want just mufflers or the entire system with headers? I for one researched the exhaust route to the extreme and you can spend a range 800-3000 bucks for exhaust. For me I desired a muffler with great sound at a lower cost point because, why do I want to put 1500 -3000 dollars for a fancy exhaust system into a car that is just going to continuely depreciate more than any other 911? I did'nt, but I wanted the sound and the performance and for me a system could be had that offered me both of these for around 1000 -1300 dollars. I found that both AH Performance and M&K Exhaust offered a solution in this price point that achieves both goals. I purchased the AH system and could not be happier. I have also listened to the M&K system and I would buy it if I ever did this over again. Matched up with the RSS Plenum and EVOMS CAI, I have achieved what I set out to do, gain the sound and the performance. I will probably add a Flash to tie it all together if my car does not sell soon for me to upgrade to a 997 GT3.
Also if you want just the sound just do the hack on the oem mufflers. This is the lowest cost point. I had no interest in doing this or buying the expensive sport exhaust from porsche.(Sorry hacker supporters - it was not for me)
So my advice is this buy what you want and spend what you want, at the end of the day it's your car. I am just happy I did not spend any more than I did for this. When I step up to the GT3 then I may be swayed into spending a lot more for exhaust than for my C2.

Afterhours Automotive Sport Muffler Gen. 2
FYI- here's a video that I shot with my digital photo camera this weekend ( sorry about the quality). The video is new footage of AH's Generation 2 Sport Muffler for the 996. The car is a 03 C4 tip Cab that previously had the original AH prototype. Brian at AH had come up with a newer version based on feedback from Gen 1 and asked me if I would be interested in swapping it out, I have had the Gen 2 on my car since April and the drone compared to the previous model between 2-3K RRM is muted and almost non-existent. In fact my wife could tell the difference and demanded that I not go back to the originals -
. In all seriousness I actually like the Gen 2 better, the sound is more controlled and at the lower RPMs- the sound is much more "liveable" for daily use and long trips. The Gen 2 go into production later this month- I'm sure Brian will make the official annoucement shortly.

I've been running the 1st gen of the Afterhours muffler for the past year and I love the robust sound of the muffler. Makes the 996 sound like a real beast on the road. You are always catching the eye of people on the street, as well as drivers next to you. However, there is droning between 2 and 3k that I understand is now being addressed on the 2nd gen model. Constantly setting off car alarms on the streets and especially in parking structures (pretty fun). My family could tell I was coming home a few blocks away from the house.
A few weeks ago I picked up a set of fabspeed mufflers and installed those on the car, to see the difference in sound. There is a significant distance between the 2. The fabspeed has a much more subdued sound then the AH mufflers. If I was to rate then on sound on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the the most agressive, I would give the AH a 8 and the Fabspeed a 3 or 4. The stock muffler would be at the bottom on the scale at a 1. though I haven't heard a car with bypass pipes, I imagine that they would be rated at a 9 or 10.
Love the sound of both mufflers, but they are dramatically different. Which do I like the best. I guess it would depend on the mood that I am when I'm driving. When I am contemplating about family, life and work then the fabspeed sound is perfect. When I am feeling highly energetic and realize that I am driving one of the best cars on the road, then the agressive sound of the AH mufflers is the ticket.
It really is a tough choice to choose the correct muffler that you will love all of the time. If you are using your car as a daily driver with long commutes then you might want to go with a more subdued sound like the fabspeed or some of the others. It the car is only driven on weekends, and you want a real agressive sound, then I highly recommend the AH mufflers.

"i have to say that Kreisiegg is the best exhaust i've seen so far on this board. how much will it cost I am sold on it."
Agreed, but look to spend $7k-9.5K and I'm not sure they have one made for a 996 not GT or Turbo.

For the standard 996- the Afterhours at a 1/4 of the price is steal.

I have fabspeed on my NA 996, which is supposedly the top exhaust brand here (too much hype in my opinion) and other brands do sound similiar to a degree with minor differences...mostly in volume. Not to say it sounds bad, it's just that Kreisiegg is the only brand with a very unique tone with thier exhaust systems and have valve adjustments on how "loud" you want it (trust me...this is a very big plus!)
To each there own, but in my opinion, I don't know how you guys can view kreisiegg video's or even hear it in person and prefer other brands. Insanity.
With all that said, they are pricier, but so well worth it! For a NA 996, its around $4700. I can get at least a 10% discount, and up to 20% if I can get a large enough group buy going. PM me if you are interested! I can't wait to get these fitted on my car. BTW, the group buy discount applies if I can get Turbo exhausts, GT's etc purchasers interested as well, not just NA 996's....the more orders, the bigger the discount for all of us!

I've had fabspeed when I first got my car and I was honestly not too impressed. Seems like a louder version of the stock sound, nothing unique about it. It also isn't even that loud, after one block at full throttle you hardly would hear it unless you are trying to focus on the sound.
It also doesn't seem to improve horses or feel by that much even with seat of the pants. With that said, I think this kreisiegg is the best I've ever heard without seeing it in person.
I will let go of my cargraphic mufflers if I can get a set of these for a good price.

I am sorry, but you are misinformed. They have a full range of exhausts for Porsche including the NA 996. You can't even compare this exhaust to others - nothing sounds like Kreisiegg. They don't take a half-asssed approach like other manufacturers.

the afterhours is probably better than most exhaust that were available for purchase but i am curious to know what OEM cans they're using, especially since they changed from V1 to V2, more information they share the better confidence I would have.
