Thinking of Purchasing a 2005 C4S
Thinking of Purchasing a 2005 C4S
Long term lurker, first time poster on here.
Been looking at owning a Porsche for a while now and have been running into a few of them out there.
One in particular caught my eye. 2005 Carrera 4S with under 20k miles. It's been owned in California the entire time. Based on the pictures, the car looks to be in great condition.
I can probably pick this for somewhere in the low $40s.
This will be replacing my 1995 BMW M3 (with 50k miles) which is a huge upgrade.
Just wanted to see what you guys' thoughts are on it.

The 996TT would be an older car (2001\2002), while the 997 would be a basic car. Depending on his requirements (AWD etc.), it might be an easier choice to make. I picked up a CPO'ed 04 C4S Cab with the X51 package in the mid-40's, so the pricing looks about right. Is this from a dealer or a private sale?
I went through this same dilema a while back. I don't worry so much about the age of the car when looking at 996TT vs. c4s since the body style is the same I was more concerned with mileage and condition. IMO I would take an 01-02 996TT with comparable mileage and condition to an 05 c4s anyday but that is me and everyone has their own decision to make.
I just picked up a 02 C4s about 6 months ago with 32k on the clock for $34k.
Year doesn't matter much if you're going to keep it for a while, there are good deals out there. Make sure it's clean and research the RMS IMS problems the C4s has.
Also look at insurance, I don't know what a Turbo costs, but a C4s is about 1200 for the year.

i went through the same process 6 months ago.
my mechanic recommended the C4S over a turbo due to the fact i drive only 8 miles to work (in south New Jersey). He said that to use a turbo as a driver, it needs to come to operating temperature, in about 20 miles or so.
The C4S has plenty of pop to it (especially over 5k rpm).
you'll like either.
good luck
