40th Anniversary 996 mods....help!
I'm looking for exterior mod help for my '04 40th model 996. Here's the deal...I'm looking at getting a GT3 wing, and some sort of polyurethane front bumper spoiler...but I'm having a heck of a time finding good advice on the wing and almost no information for a GT3 style spoiler (or anyone for that matter) that will fit the Turbo front bumper of the '04 40th model. So...in an act of desperation...can anyone point me in the right direction. When I finally finish with this stuff, I plan on looking at the Evolution Motorsports chip, muffler, and intake system. Thanks for all your help. This Forum is awesome!
If you are getting a GT3 wing - get the one for the 2001 and up Aerokit Cup - which is like the GT3 wing and you'll have no problems with the engine's air intake. Well, your 40th Anniversary has the X51 Powerkit on it and I don't know if the air box has its intake in the same location or if there is a difference - as in the 997 version which has a dual intake. Then, you should also replace the front bumper and put also the Aerokit Cup bumper for the 2001 and up cars as it is like the GT3 bumper. You'll have a car then that looks like a GT3 and is faster than a regular Carrera.
I'd replace the front bumper if installing the rear wing in order to maintain aerodynamic balance front/rear as the front bumper you have is like the one on the C4S and I don't know if it is a proper match for the 40th Anniversary stock front bumper.
You have a nice car and maybe you should leave it as is but, it is your car and you can do with it as you please. Just keep the stock parts around if you want to ever sell it as I believe it may be detrimental to its value to sell it with the body alterations you are planning to do. I am all for Aerokits on these cars as my 997 has it but, in the case of your particular model, maybe I'd leave it as is. IMO.
Hope my information was of help and post pics once you have this done!

Which GT3 wing are we talking about here? the original MK1 Taco, or the MK2 Ironing Board?
In any case, I think Getty has them both in their 996 catalog.
I the case of the front bumper, I don't know if the 40th is any different from other 911s, can't help there. Don't know if I would replace a turbo style with a GT3 style though, turbo looks way better imo...

Get the "surf board" rear spoiler (OEM GT3 wing). I think it's the Aerokit II.
The original bumper is the same as the C4S. But if you want the proper aerodynamics, you should get the matching Aerokit II front spoiler.
I did not get the matching GT3 front spoiler and I didn't notice any instability due to aerodynamics.

Thanks alot guys for helping me out with this decision. xx911xx....that's the first pic I've every seen of an Anniversary model with a GT3 wing. I agree...I think it looks great! I'll be sure to keep the OEM wing intact on a shelf for future resale purposes. Haven't decided yet on the Aerokit II spoiler...mostly because I haven't seen one on this model.
Oh...I almost forgot....where can I find info on an Aerokit front spoiler? Steve

Owning #917 of 1963 04 Anniversary Editions, I can not think of any thing I would change but, if I had to choose any one mod, it would be swapping out the front lip spoiler w/ an OEM type lip that fits a C4S or turbo. Painting it Metallic silver to match the exterior seems to give this edition a more sleek look but one draw back is that it has a tendency to scrape going up or down inclines if not careful.
But bottom line is it is a beautiful automobile w/o any mods what so ever and brings a smile to my face every time I see it .... just drive it as much as possible and enjoy every moment,

Thanks for the insight. I just found that TechArt makes a C4s/Turbo front lip spoiler as you suggested. WOW...it really looks awesome...and WOW....it's really expensive.....$1949! (for just one
)
Anyway, I really like the GT3 wing because it just looks like its made for the car with the side rockers it has. The C4s front spoiler would finish off the job nicely. i sure don't wanna' make any mods that cannot be undone quickly and easily. Talked to the EVOMS folks today. They tell me the Stage 1 intake and remap would make a big difference...even with the factory X51 inside. One step at a time. Thanks for your input. Steve

What do you think about the C4s/Turbo front spoiler that MAShaw makes and the same one that extrememotorsports advertises (the "XTR" spoiler)? They are both $1400 less than the TechArt front lip spoiler. I guess I must be missing something......probably FRP vs. Polyurethane I'm thinking..
OK...so I have nothing better to do at midnight than surf for porsche mods.....Anyway, I found that SpeedArt also sells a polyurethane Turbo/C4s look front lip spoiler! its a bit smaller (less in your face) than the TechArt front spoiler...AND...it's $1,110 instead of $1,949. OK...now we're getting close. Funny, since a number of reputable "dealers" and "distributers" on the WEB claim that "theirs" is the ONLY front spoiler that will fit my car. Hmmmm. Later. Steve
