Strange goings on .. any ideas

Hi, Ive only had my 02 c4s for a few weeks and have only put 300 miles on her since purchase. I just replaced front brake pads myself as it was relatively very easy. Well out for a test drive to make sure all is good and I get a PSM and ABS failure come up same time. PSM goes of and it says drive to workshop. SO I drive it home and run to get my code reader to see what codes have been set and it shows no codes. hmm strange I start the car but do not drive it and it shows no errors. I havent driven it again .. any advice ?

had the exact same issue on my '02 C2. It is a malfunctioning brake switch that lives underneath the dash, above the pedal cluster. It is a pain to get to, I had my shop replace and all is well. Part costs about $15. Here is a link to the exact part:

Thanks for the tip. After doing a search I see its rather common and can be a bunch of different things.
My battery is a little weak so that gets replaced tomorrow and I will try clean the MAF and as you suggested I will look for that brake switch.

When you did the brakes did you replace the brake wear sensor's or re-use them? I am a Porsche tech and it's common to see those light's come on if the sensors aren't plugged all the way in or the sensor harness is stretched, the brake sensor system is simple and doesnt require much of a connection to keep the light off, but it also ties into the abs / psm control unit. Also from the above post about the brake light switch that is extremely common try pushing the brke down with your hand and pulliing out the part on the switch that contacts the pedal this will adjust the switch. Lastly check that your brake fluid isn't overflowing

It was to cold to work on the car this past weekend so no update as of yet. I did order a brake switch in case this is the issue. When i changed the pads i re-used the old pad wear sensor cables (is that what your referring to above ?) I never disconnected them upstream just reused them since they were intact. I did add brake fluid as it seemed low so I will double check when it warms up a little outside. I dont have an enclosed garage at this location. I ordered a new optima red top battery as that was needed and found a pre drilled plate online that will make the install easier for that.

Welcome to the world of P-cars.

i had the same fault code. It seems to be caused by many issues. So, diagnose it carefully and the fixes are usually pretty easy.

having owned P-cars for decades, the 996 appears fairly easily DIYed. You seem reasonably adept and just remember working on the car is one of the pleasures of P-cars.

Oh forgot to mention so I decided to clean out the maf while i was waiting for the new brake switch to arrive and I ran a new tank of gas through the car and the check engine light hasnt come back on. So I have the brake light in the console for when it does wear out.
