interior led light idea?
I posted info on the required LED type numbers in this post:

I do not think any of the LED coloring will give you a "cheap" look, but if want to keep the yellowish original color I guess you can choose "warm white" color. I chose the blueish "cool white" myself and thinks that looks more high tech

I have. Changed all interior lamps; doors, all 3 overhead, trunk & engine bulbs. Check out superbrightleds.com for all the bulbs. Doors & map lights are 194. Center overhead is 42mm festoon as well as trunk & engine compartments.

Thats correct, you will need:
3 leds for: Trunk + engine compartment + interior dome light [6411]:
4410-x9 LED Festoon bulb
4 leds for: Map reading bulbs (either side of dome light) + Step/courtesey lights (doors) [2825]:
WLED-x6 LED bulb

FYI, I had a 1999 996 and was able to add the 2002+ ambient LED light unit to my car by swapping out the entire light unit in the roof for one with the LED. Only required a minor trimming of the electrical plug to get it to work with the 1999 factory harness connector. Gives the cool "orange LED glow" that comes with the newer models. Of course, if you have a newer (2002+) 996 then you should already have this.
