Thumbs up Horsepower

Guys for those of you that are curious the way to figure out you power numbers is by taking the current numbers and multiplying them by the amount of manifold pressure you intend to run. So for instance the set that i did on my personal car was .4bar. The way it works, if you run n/a at 1 atmosphere x amount of power 381(in my case) and you add another atmosphere on top of it you should double the power and require double the fuel. That being said you take your existing HP multiply it by 1.4(1 atmosphere + .4 more) and you get your new flywheel hp. Take that result and multiply by .85 and that should yield the wheel power. Lets do my GT3 for instance:

381 * 1.4= 533.4 flywheel HP
533.4 * .85= 453.4 Wheel HP

I consider this number to be reasonable and attainable since we have done it numerous times. Same math different projects same results. The numbers will get you real close to where you will be when done. In reality the dyno is a little bit higher but not by a lot. 3-4 percent has been my experience. Again the numbers get you answer in the ballpark. If you want to know what it will do at .5 bar

381 * 1.5= 571
571 * .85= 485

Hope this helps in answering the hp questions as there are a few different variants in power for the 996 and 997 models. You the dyno in all of my experience does 2 things for me, it corroborates the numbers or shows me that there is a problem. You can tel when there is a problem just by driving the car. The math works!!

Just a funny remark and not aimed towards your pricing.

So please let's keep this civil.
That statement IS a class act thing to say and I applaud that!
Good to see vendors accepting that there is room in the market place for everyone!
Nice work IMA,nice work!

Cool

Interesting concept and kit.

I'm just still not sold on bolting the turbos on after the stock cats.....

That requires pressurizing a long route of piping and if the cats spit out any broken catalyst.......poof.

I need a ride in Berks.

I'd like to see your dyno chart and compare it to the supercharger (SC)chart...is your power as linear as the SC?

@Ivan: I'm going to guess that this set up will not pass emissions...will it?

@boochook: let's get that video up already!

which is now completed, and in the last few months have decided to move on to the 996 and 997. So, here we are with a nice twin turbo kit using the latest in turbocharger technology and wastegates to boot. The turbos are twin ball bearing Garretts, Tial external wastegates, 6 new injectors, and twin water to air intercoolers that work very well in lowering and maintaining charge temps. We have used our past experience in developing a kit that not only delivers the performance, but is also of high quality in components and workmanship.

You may have seen some pics on boochoock's thread of the kit. A lot of time in the design and engineering of the kit went into making it extremely easy to install so the DIY'er can do this at home in his garage. On the same token it is completely reversable and you can make the car run N/A in a matter of hours. We are very proud of that with the only major changes to the car being two 3" holes cut for charge hose routing, which are in the same location as the stock TT hoses. Two body plugs would cover them up and no one would know the difference. We are very particular about cutting up a car and not being able to reverse the changes, and surely there are quite a few of you out there who feel the same.

Hope that we can contribute in making the cars better and faster so you guys can enjoy them more. Think about it is like a new girlfriend that you need to discover everything about her.
Ivan, I'm not sure this would work for a street car in CA. Needs smog, mufflers, etc. Any plans for CA cars? This is a very cool setup. j

Judgejon

We will start working on a set up that will make good in CA. The car passes emmissions in VA without any problems.

Breakthru

What makes you doubt that it will not pass emmissions. The cats are intacted and O2's as well. It has not set a ck engine light on yet. I have 8k plus on my car.

Fly996

You will see them soon. Finalizing the tune, been driving the car just to refine it a bit.

Brando

That is a good observation about the potential of damaging turbo. The after the cat effect is not even noticeable, it works pretty damn well. Berk can comment more on that. I think he almost pee'd his pants Saturday or did. I forget. After running 4th to redline I reached for 5th and mashed it again, he started screaming like at the top of his lungs. Just PM him. He may not want to admit it in public. Maybe he has already.
We are already thinking about the next stage which will eliminate that problem.

are these numbers you're giving with a stock engine/trans? seems like from what i've read, that the trans even have problems with the stock power output before something breaks.

what size turbos are being used. your formula doesn't really seem accurate if you're using it as a general statement for all turbos.
