Question Tires for DE and Street

As DE season approaches in the Mid-South, I'm trying to decide if I stay with the Conti Sport Contact IIs or try something new. I've used the SC II for the past few years and am pleased with their performance. I use the car primarily for DEs (75%) and on the street when the weather is nice. Here's my challenge: I'd like to find a comparable performance tire at a better price (if possible). Please share your experience. Any feedback about the Bridgestone Potenza 760s?

For 75% DE, you could definitely benefit from a separate set of wheels with proper track tires. Even the "lowest" set of R-comps is much better than street tires.

I have used Michelin Pilot Sport Cups for the past 2 seasons, on dedicated track wheels. They do pretty well, especially in warmer temps. Do not swap them in the rain. I am mulling over Hoosier R6s for this season, but am intimidated by the 996's lack of (true) dry sump lubrication.

I use Toyo R888 for track use only. They are really noisy on the street and bad in the rain. If you really do 75% of DE use, then you should buy a tire dedicated to that use.

I used R6s for years on my 996. Get an x51 oil pan and you should be OK. If you are really worried, get a deep sump with pickup extender. I also used the Cups, and IMO, the R6s are way better than MPSC. In fact, there are not many tires as good as R6s - but many that cost less

Great feedback guys! I drive to the DEs (usually 3+ hours) and need a tread that can handle the rain if necessary. Until I get either a trailer to tow with, or a tow behind trailer, track tires aren't an option. Based on some great feedback on the site, I've gone with the Sumi HRT Z III tires for this season. Reportedly, better performance than the Conti SC 2s and a much better price. I'm having them installed this weekend for a DE at Barber Motorsport Park in early March (4 hours), then off to Texas for a May DE at MSR (7 hours).

Maybe track specific tires next season.

On my second set of rears and so far so good. They have been a good all around tire at a great price point so I don't mind burning them up at the track.
