Limp gas compartment door

I went to put gas in my car last week and the gas door no longer will stay open by it self. The coil type spring is still there but I'm not sure how it is suppose to work. My Porsche is a 01 996. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Just in case this happens to someone else, the hinge was broken. Ordered a new hinge from Suncoast, and all is well.
