Another '99 Tip CAB Question?
I am posting these ?'s for my buddy (SINCE THE DAMN FORUM IS STILL NOT WORKING, HE CAN'T REGISTER.)
He wanted to know what everyone’s thoughts are on a TIP (automatic) vs. a 6 speed for a '99 cab or even a newer year regarding performance etc..
I guess he's having cold feet on the tip. I think he's concerned with being able to get a good note from an aftermarket exhaust. Also, he says there's a big difference in the speed he feels when he's in my 2002 C2.
Any feedback may help, thanks.

I test drive both, end-up I take the 6speed. On tips I feel the car is not move as quick like the 6sp, also I don't like when you want down shift you can only on steering wheel. But is a good curising car. If your friends really want a Tips car, maybe SL65, S4 Cab or M3 Cab
You should read Rick Bye's article in December Panorama, "The Art of Driving". My '02 cab is Tip. It's a pretty amazing piece of work. Its not your father's Oldsmobile. Blip throttle downshifts etc.
From strictly a performance standpoint, the 6 speed will be quicker than the TIP because of weight and less loss of power throught he drivetrain. However, if you can't drive a 6 speed properly, you will loose alot more performance than you would with the tip.

It all depends on his driving style. I'm happy with my TIP because I'm constantly parking on the 405 freeway parking lot
. Sure - there are times where I wish I had a 6speed... the TIP's drivetrain doesn't seem as responsive at launch. Although switching over to TIP Manual does help a bit, it's still no 6speed.
On the other hand... when I'm sitting in traffic or cruising, I'm satisfied with my TIP. As for performance... I think any pcars packed with plenty of power for any driver to master.

Well I finally got registered, thank you all for helping me (you know who you are!).
Thanks for all the advice. Anyway I ended up with a '02 C4 cab -6 speed and can't express how glad I am that I did not get a TIP (the TIP is a great car, if it was your daily driver). The 6 speed is so much fun, you can downshift while reving the moter and slide into gear. I have an cargraphic exhaust and it is a blast to drive the car!!!!
Again, thanks for the comments
Like Neil stated - 6 speed all the way!

I also have a 996 Cab with the 6 speed. I never even considered the Tip. In fact part of the reason for getting rid of my last car (not a porsche) was the tip transmission in it. You just don't get that "connected" feel that you get when you have a clutch pedal.
Top down, revving through the gears, down-shifting, etc. 6 speed is the way to go. I don't sit in traffic, but if i did I don't think i'd be driving the porsche.

Robert,
Congrats on the new purchase. When I was shopping, the tips were less money than the six speeds. To each his own, IMO the 6 speed is the way to go. Most people buying this type of car(sport) want the sport feel and you need the 6 speed to get that. Down shifting, zipping in and out of traffic, there is nothing like it.
And welcome to the forum.
