I know that the engine block in both years does not have the porosity issues that 99's might have. Which is a good thing. And, they are both e-gas vs non e-gas in 99s. Not sure of what else.

The 2000 and 2001 are very similar. The big change came in 2002, 3.6 VarioCamPlus, different headlights and rear bumper, glass rear window on the cabs, glovebox, supposedly a stiffer body, etc. etc.

In 99 and 2000 you could get a limited slip differential on the non e-gas cars.

2001 has PSM and e-gas whereas the ones prior to that model year don't have either. On the prior years you could have optioned a limited slip differential. Also, the 2001 has an even 300 hp, if I am correct, whereas the prior ones have a little less, at least on paper. I'm not 100% sure on some of what I wrote so correct me if I am wrong.

Was the PSM an option or standard on 01 models? I could've sworn I've seen some 01's without PSM.

I have a 2000 due to budget, but would have gone to '02 if I could have. The power and upgrades are pretty nice. I think the only downer is the MOST audio system makes some upgrades more difficult.

So does everyone tend to stay away from the 99 cars?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe 2000 & 2001 are are basically the same. Both have PSM as option and 300 hp, a very slight increased over the '99 MY. Weight wise, I thought the '01 MY is slightly heavier over the '00 model. I don't believe LSD was an option for either '00 or '01 due to the availability of PSM.

Lots of updates, including the front facial changes, came in '02+, it also gain quite a few pounds in the process.
