OEM clutch prices

Ordered an OEM clutch kit from suncoast for my '02 C2 last Thurs since my engine was taken down to fix a bad cylinder/valve. They charge $499 and I thought their oem parts are like 15% above cost. Pop open the automotion catalog today to see the Sachs clutch kit for $420! WTF, especially when it seems everything automotion sells is higher than most places.
Oh well...should've done a lil' more research before pulling trigger.

Their costs can change, usually up but once in a while down. It has always paid for me to check as many sources as I can when buying parts. Believe it or not, a few years ago I had to replace a Becker CD-220 radio/CD and the cheapest place was at my local Porsche dealer. I almost fainted.

I'm pretty sure I payed $500 or $600 for my clutch kit on my C2. Got it from the dealer. Maybe I should have shopped around period ha!

Also the difference between an OEM kit and a Sachs kit. To get the Porsche label you definitely pay more. This is even true when the aftermarket supplier is the same supplier for the OEM kit. You can often buy the exact same part for less if you are willing to give up the Porsche label.

just had RMS/IMS done at dealer on my 02 996 C2 with 27k miles- fidelity warranty paid for all but clutch-
checked dealer price on clutch kit- it was almost twice the $487 from Sunset & they shipped it to me in Honolulu via USPS flat rate for $20- in past they'd only use UPS which is ridiculous cost to Hawaii. Great Service.

I wouldn't have replaced the clutch if the motor wasn't down already...wasn't worn out that bad, but saved on labor if done separately.

Dharn: hope your car is running strong like a bull after that rebuild! Next time i'll save a few $ and opt not to have the porsche label on the box!lol!
