Engine noise when warm

Hello

Bought my first Porsche for about 1 month ago. I noticed when I tested the car the first time that the car get a little ticking from the right side vavles when warm at idle. Because it had been standning in the garage for about 6 months I tought that it just was the oil. Had it checked at porsche center before I made the deal and they didn't say anything about this.

I changed the oil to pennzoil 5w-40 but the sound is still there. Sometimes often when you drive it hard you don't hear it as loud. Never any noice when cold. But when the coolant is about 80 degrees (C) it starts. Had it on a lift and you can hear it from the right side valvecover.

Anyone else that has this sound. Will change to mobil 1 5w-50 soon but just wonder if it could be something else.

Probably lifters. What year is your car?

It is a 1999 C2 about 100000miles.
Use it as my daily driver.
Had a 3000gt that had the same thing changed to a thicker oil and it was better.
Same thing here?

I have heard that this sometimes helps. But to thick can cause problems with the tiny oil passages in the lifters. When I first put my engine back together I had a lot of ticking. I ended up replacing all my lifters. Have some info on sourcing them way below dealer costs if you end up doing this, but you have to remove the covers, cams, etc. to do so, which means a few tools, etc.

Hey Dharn,
I'm actually in the process of having my lifters replaced as the mechanic took apart my engine a few weeks back to replace the #4 piston/valve. He should've replaced them then, but didnt and now has to drop engine and do it all over. He's going to replace all lifters rather than just the one side. Where's the best source/cost? Thanks!
