I had V1 for a day. It was crappy around town with false alarm every 3 blocks. I imagine that it's good for roadtrips and maybe highways, but probly not around town.

Does Escort 9500ix behave the same way? I was thinking about trying that if it generate less false alarm.

All the false alarm ruins the fun in driving IMO.

the 9500ix you can "mark" locations that are known false areas. If its like my 9500ci it should auto learn. The 9500ci also alerts to red light and speed cameras.

From personal experience, V1 is the best bang for your buck. I have used K40 and Passports in the past, with mixed feelings on either. I currently use a Beltronics 9XX (don't remember the exact model number). The only reason I don't currently have a V1 is that I got the Beltronics for free.

Also, around town, unless you live in a more rural area, most detectors will give you false alarms. Some of the newer "smart" GPS based units are better than others when it comes to this, however they all perform best on the freeway.

I currently use an old Passport 8500 that I got basically for free.

Recently I was following a co-worker who was using a Valentine 1. His detector would obviously go off, he'd hit the brakes and then my 8500 would go off.

I will be switching to a Valentine very soon.

I have a K40 built in with laser diffuser front and back that came with the car. A couple of false alarms every now and then otherwise precise on the highway. Saved me more than once here in sunny FL.

escort 8500 x50 for the past 4 years, the regular 8500 for a year or 2, and the solo2 when it first came out.

I bought it at sharper image and when a new model came out I was able to go in and upgrade. Of course I bought their extend 3 year plan, and they gave me a new one each time. Too bad they went out of business I kind of want a 9500.

I can't complain though it has saved me many times.
