I'm new the the Porsche family and I'm really enjoying my car. I've recently purchased a 2002 C4S and I'd like to get an idea of tire wear on fronts compared to the rears. The car came with Pirelli P-Zeros on 19" wheels and the rears look to have about 25%+ more wear than the fronts. The car was lowered with a PSS9 kit and was corner weighted and aligned by GMG so I'm assuming all is right there. I would assume even with 4WD the rears wear faster than the fronts. Am I correct in my assumption? If this is correct would it be correct to say I'll go through 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts? I'd like to get a set of PS2's put on when the rears go, but if I can run another set of rear P-Zeros while the front run their course I'd probably do that instead since the fronts seem to be holding up well.

I'm sure driving tendencies play a major factor, so I'm basically using it as a weekend driver on as many twisty roads in SoCal as I can find.

Your assumption is pretty accurate.

I eat through 2 sets of rears for every front set.

I am lowered on JIC CO's and am running some neg camber. If I drive easy, I get wear on the inside edges in the rear.

If I drive like a maniac and push it in the twisties, they seem to even out with some outside wear.

I would not mix brands F to R.

Brando has the wear percentage right. Two rear sets for every one front. If you want to play you have to pay!

 

Does anyone swap rears from left to right so the insides are on the outsides and vice versa?

I know you cant do this with asymmetrical tires, but I've done it before with other high end cars and really extends the life of the tires if you have camber wear..

 

swapping the rears left to right would still leave the inside shoulder of the tire on the inside and subject to camber wear...

you have to dismount the tire and remount the tire in a "flipped" fashion. you can do this whether the tire is asymmetric or not as long as you also "swap" the left and right as needed. i have done this to prolong the life of the tire on my high camber cars.

 

Yep. Thats what I meant, dismount the tire from right rim , mount on left and vice versa. Of Course they still rotate the same way..

 

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll get another set of rears next. Unfortunately, the rear wheel is an 11.5 and the 295's on it are too stretched for my liking. I'd like to get a 305 or 315 to fill the wheel more, but I have to stay with the 295 in the Pirelli's to keep within the 3% spec of the 235/35 Pirelli fronts.

315/25/19 is 1.9% too small
both are within 3%. gl.

 

My HRE's are 19x8.5 with 235/35/19 fronts and 19x11.5 with 315/25/19 in the rear. Perfect fit on the C4S

Are those Momo wheels? If so, I believe you bought my old car! I sold it Dec '08 and saw it in the OC Craigslist two months ago. Yes, no? I put on the wheels and the PSS9s. I let the car go for a good price as I was desparate to buy a Ferrari and when I saw it in Craigslist, it was at a higher price than what i sold it for!!!

 

And rears look to be toast in another 2k miles, and fronts are about 50% so i think it's about right...2 to 1

This must be your old car. I recognize Chino Hills from the docs. To keep my sanity I'd rather not know what you sold it for but I bought it for much less than what you listed it on here for. Hopefully I did alright. I love the car and it's running great. I hope to someday be in a position to act on being "desparate" to get a Ferrari! ;-) That's a beautiful car!
