Oil pressure gauge going bonkers

Wondering it anyone had/has the same problem.
2003 c4s 20k
noticed the gauge flickered on and off giving a oil failure light in the center cluster msg .wiring problem?oil pressure switch,or gauge?

Mine too..

What's funny is my gauge did the same thing the other night. Needle flickered and then the warning light and beep came on. Checked the oil level and it was fine. Hasn't happened since..It's been 4 days since, but I haven't driving it over 5 miles since. Will do some more investigating and will write back..

while on a highway onramp the other night my oil pressure gauge just dropped it beeped at me so i shut the car off and coasted onto the shoulder, checked the oil level and fired her back up and all was well......strange, but no probs since..... I hope it was a one time thing...

same thing happened to me about 500 mi ago. stopped, turned off and on. has not reappeared.

head wrench at dealer said it often happens. ignore unless it does not turn off.

This is a well-known issue on 996s. The sending unit itself can go bad, or the contacts on the sending unit may require some tightening or some dielectric grease for better contact. The unit itself is only around $60-70, I believe, and can be done yourself for that cost plus a tool or two. Otherwise the stealership will charge you around $300-400.
