Sunroof Not closing

Hey guys, so my sunroof today decided that it doesnt want to close about 1-2inchs till its about to lock into place.

From the closed position it will open all the way, then when i press the button to close it it goes until about 1-2inchs, then goes back and opens up more but doesnt go all the way open. At that point i kinda have to push the buttons in no particular order to get it to respond. I messed with it for about 30mins and it seems that if i hold the close button down and push the metal wind deflector down it will close, but it cant do it on its own.

Has anyone had this problem before? Or know how to fix it?

mine was acting up and it was the motor... they replaced the switch 1st but it ended up being the motor.

no wierd sounds. it just wouldnt open with just touching the button, some times you had to hold it other times you had to play with it just to open it and to close it you had to hold the button down and make sure it closed just right because some times it would cycle closed and if your finger stayed on the button too long it would cycle open. it was just acting wierd. I had peope telling me there were alot of sensors but its realy just a switch motor and track.

you may just have a track issue if you have to push up on the metal wind deflector, but when u mentioned playing with the buttons it sounded like my issue.

had that problem a few times, after putting my hand up on the wind deflector as i do in our 4Runner. try this: push the button to close the roof, as the roof is closing, hold the deflector down.

try resetting the switch by holding it for 30 seconds

probably needs some good lube. maybe use some graphite grease on the inside of the track? you need to open the roof completely.

if nothing else works, it could be a weak motor.
