IMS - what to think?
its hard to enjoy when your driving a time bomb. I'm all for nice cars but when they are not engineered correctly and they refuse to admit theres a problem, thats when i have no tolerance . A car with 12000. miles should not be a candidate for catastrophic failure because they say it is not used enough. I can tell you we were going to buy a cayene this fall and now that will never happen. Porsche just lost a 60000 dollar sale from me and there are probably more people that feel the same way.
Empathy
I empathize with you and respect your feelings. You have a strong opinion towards German engineering and the "time bomb" situation it has put you through. I wish you the best of luck in finding the car of your dreams and one that meets your engineering standards. Good luck to you.
BTW, Porsche didn't lose anything. They already sold the car. A dealer may have lost the opportunity to sell a car a second time. Good luck getting a new one for $60k.
Also, to all of you that are considering buying a exotic car, you may want to check out the costs of operating the vehicle. Porsche is regularly one of the highest in owner costs.
...and if you're serious, buy the car at a "depressed" market value and put ~$3000 into the LNE IMS retrofit. You still come out on the front end of the curve.
Jeez. Go whine somewhere else. This is getting ridiculous.

Wow - lots of strong opinions on this subject.
Based on what I am hearing, I think I will go ahead and get the LNE bearing update right away just for peace of mind. From a strict statistical standpoint it probably makes more sense not to do it until the tranny is out for another reason, but I just want to be able to fully enjoy the car without having the IMS issue weighing in the back of my mind. I certainly appreciate that others have a different level of risk tolerance, though.
The cost of ownership is what it is. I have no problem dealing with that. Now I just have to find the right C4S to buy!

14000 dollars in 12000 miles isn't whining and thats beyond exotic car ownership

I think IMF and RMS problems are not expensive to repair compare having problem or maintenance for Ferrari or Lambo least you don't worry about your car burned to ground like brand new f458 italia .
You bought your car back in Oct 2009 for 27 grand https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...k-1999-c2.html (original sticker over $70) and have been a member of this site for a while. You knew about IMS/RMS issues - it's all over the site - and chose to do Nav and wheel upgrades.
The cost to have an IMS/RMS and clutch would have run you <$4,000. Total "all in" would have been $31,000 or a 99 C4 Cab. Still a bargain for an exotic sports car.
You rolled the dice and lost. Sorry that its cost you that. Please just quit complaining. YOU made the choice.
