How much is a brand new 3.6 PSE system worth?

I was just wondering if there is a market for 996 3.6 PSE mufflers or how much they sell for. I had to buy new ones for my '03 C4S for something like $7k or something crazy and then they failed bc the added heat from my race pipes. I bought new OEM ones bc I didnt realize what was causing the problem. When they failed again, Porsche sent me new ones in the box and I never put them on the car. I went with a Fabspeed system. I dont know if I should save somebody a couple thousand dollars or save them to sell with my car when the day comes. Thoughts?

Isn't there more to this system than just the mufflers?

There is also a wiring harness, here is one on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...Q5fAccessories

You could easily fabricate the harness. Also a dash switch and an electrical/pneumatic actuator and some air tubes. But all these can be purchased very reasonably. It is the cost of the mufflers that has become outrageous. A few years ago the system was less than $2,000, I bought mine on eBay for about $800. The system now costs over $5,000, I think much more, from Porsche.

If someone is interested in these cans I have an extra actuator and air tubes. I can only say that I love my PSE.

Goldduster - The couple of parts I have, the switchover module and the tubes probably cost less than $50 new. I know you can buy the switch over module, not sure about the tubes, but the only ones that are unique are the ones that fun near the mufflers themselves as they have wire mesh on them as a heat shield. There is also a vacuum canister, I think I have an extra one of those too, but again the cost is insignificant. The wire harness is on eBay, not sure how much they would sell it for. And the dash switch is less than $50 from Porsche.

The real cost is the cans/mufflers, so you should see what you could buy these for. I have no idea what the seller would want for them.

If you do a search here and on the other boards you will find many threads and DIY's on the install.

Dharn55 - that is very good of you - thank you! Will let you know when/if he wants to sell them.

Otherwise, guess I'll just wait for mine to wear out and replace with Fabs like he did - probably the most economically feasible way to go anyway.

PSE's are overpriced IMO.

With that said, the on/off sound capabilities are what sets that apart from other exhausts out there and are a desired feature for a lot of older farts like me.

I've been thinking of doing the PSE hack but run this inline with the modified pipe.

^if i was going to do that, i'd put that a valve just after the cats... or better yet, just after the headers. that way you can have it quiet, or ridiculously loud -- not just a little bit louder.
