Another new(ish) member.
I've been lurking for a few months and got a lot of help from a couple of members when I first got my 2000 C2 Tip Cab in June. It came with a hardtop and factory wall mount, but no instructions. The wall mount was like a Chinese puzzle to me until one of the members went the extra mile to help me.
So far I've done the following mods:
Pumpkins removal
Aluminum cluster rings
LNEngineering Spin-on Oil Filter Adapter
IMS, RMS, X51 Oil Pan, and low temp thermostat
Replaced CD storage with top storage shelf
Installed Becker 4g iPod cable and iPod Touch
TSB for improving remote antenna reception.
I bought an extra set of 3.4 cans and a stainless steel tube for the MkI PSE mod. I hope to find a welder in the morning, then plan on replacing the mufflers myself.
The car came with a built-in Valentine1 radar detector and some kind of laser detector/jammer, both of which display in the rearview mirror. I understand the V1 stuff, but still not sure about the others. There are electronic sensors in the front grill, in the rear license plate frame, and glued to the inside of the windshield. The alarms from the V1 are based on the obvious, but the other alarms seem kind of random. Almost seems like it's sometimes picking up signals from EZ-Pass transponders.
Anyway, the car is a blast to drive and I love it more every day.

Welcome. You've made a LOTof progress since June. A thoughtful, solid selection of mods.
I respect the external mods that others do (wings/aero kits/etc). I'd rather keep mine looking stock and "fly under the radar" as much as possible. Personal choice.
I don't have the details for your specific laser jammer. I have a (probably) similar built-in unit. It can be set off by cruise controls on other cars that use lasers for spacing. I have had it go off in unusual places on my driving routes and never did figure out what set it off. Yet, just because I didn't see the cop, didn't mean there wasn't a guy on a motorcycle who had actually parked someplace I couldn't see. In WA State, they like to have a guy (often motorcycle cop) on an overpass -- sometimes accompanied by several cruisers just over the hill.
The thing to note about the jammers is that they only work at longer distances. By the time you get within about 300-400' of the source, the source will overpower the jammer. So, it gives you a few moments to slow down; as always, it's most effective if you're just a few miles over the limit. Guys who drive inappropriately fast will blow through their buffer zone before they can slow down.
Most units have a mute button. Most mute buttons actually turn off the jamming (which produces an error on the gun). If I hear the jammer go off, I'll kill it as soon as possible. I don't want to interfere with the LEO's job -- and I don't want it to be somehow obvious that any jamming came from my car.
So, it's worth spending a little time with the manual on your unit to estimate its range & see if it has a mute/deactivate button.
Good luck with your car.

That's the rub. I don't have a manual, and not even sure the brand. I did download the V1 manual, so I have a fair understanding of how that works. There is a **** on the center console between the heated seat switches that turns the V1 on and off, works the volume, and lets you temporarily mute the alarm. However, this doesn't affect the Laser unit, which seems to always be on.
The two lights circled in the picture are the ones that are not part of the V1 set up. There probably is a switch for that unit too, but I haven't found it yet.

Have you tried calling Valentine's customer support? They should have one....either a paper copy for a fee or maybe they can send you a link for a PDF.
In doing a web search, I didn't see anything that looked quite like your setup, although one or more manufacturers seem to add their laser jamming as a package to go with the Valentine One. One possibility is that you have a combination unit.
Good luck.

I'm a new '04 996TT Cab and am wondering how the V1 performs in the real world? It's one thing to have great paper specs but real world performance is were it counts. I've already learned so much by reading the info posted. Thanks from Texas!

As far as V1 performance, this is my first radar detector so I can't compare it to other systems. I can tell you that I'm really impressed with it. It gives you a heads up in plenty of time to slow down. The display that shows the number of sources and whether they're in front, behind, or to the side is really helpful.
Would the place you bought it from be willing to pose your question(s) to the previous owner? Might even be able to give them a stamped envelope, ask them to address it to the PO and give that person the option of responding. The guy obviously put some money into the installation and might enjoy telling you about it.
