Question New 996

Hi, all. After months of searching, I've finally gotten my 911. It's a 2003 with 19,500 miles on it. Also has the Sport Exhaust. Love it...but... after a 6 hour drive after getting it yesterday, I found a drop of oil that had dripped where I parked it and 2/3 of a drop forming. It was on the bottom of the half-circle shaped piece in the center of the underside photo. RMS area? Am I being overly paranoid?

I had a PPI done before I bought it. It was driven about 40 minutes to the dealer for the and the PPI indicated a little bit of seeping, but the tech at the Porsche dealer (Porsche of Melbourne, FL) told me if it was his, he won't worry about it until there was much more mileage and it was time for a clutch.

Reasonable?

your car obviously wasn't driven very much(due to the mileage), many of the seals can get dried up without oil splashing on them. When I bought my car I had the same thing, upon driving it more and more, it stopped........put some miles on that thing. :-)

we're in a similar situation. I also just bought a 911. 02, 20K miles. It even looks similar to yours. Not to alarm you, but in my opinion I would be very concerned. You put a lot of time into finding the right car and you deserve to have a car pretty close to perfect with 19.5K on it. Who did you buy it from? If you noticed it right away, a reputable dealer should address the issue... warranty or not. It could be a leaky gasket or perhaps something as simple as a loose bolt on the oil pan. Hopefully nothing scary. Good luck! Oil on the ground is never a good thing!

You should probably get it checked just to be sure, can never be too careful.
It's probably a dry seal like jwhipple said...

Congrats on your new ride. If the leak bothers you then definitely have it checked.

Your engine seems to have a coating of oil over the whole thing - I would check that out. At least you could get under there and clean everything off so you can identify where the oil is coming from. It could be nothing/it could be real trouble but your undercarriage is so coated that you'll have trouble locating the problem without a good clean.

Maybe nothing serious, but this should have been noticed during the PPI for sure, this isn't a new leak...PPI looks like they didn't do a good job!

Seeping from where? No seeping is "normal." The more you drive these cars the better, and I'd honestly rather have one with more miles than less in terms of reliability.

It's true, quite annoyingly every time I don't drive the car for a while (and it's plugged to a trickle charger), I come back and something is screwed. One time I didn't drive it for 10 days - the MAF was faulty, now I had to go out of town, didn't drive it for 2 weeks - the alternator went bust.
And when I drove it a couple of times a week - nothing at all.
