double-DIN Kenwood NAV/DVD unit

I am considering putting this one or similar in:
http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-DNX696.../dp/B0037BHZLQ

I am tired of not being able to listen to music in iPhone, and my navigation is useless without a disk for Illinois, and even then the map database is outdated.

Has anyone done this? Carrera 4 2002 with navigation (which is also PMS and audio screen)

I put in the Kenwood-7100 and love every minute of it. One of the best mods I did that pays back in folds. Definitely do it, it really brings out the potential of the stock speakers, if you keep them.

I replaced my stock unit with the Pioneer AVIC 120BT. The sound is great and the features are endless. If you get the conversion kit from Loi at Euromotorspeed on E-Bay, you will get a pretty OEM look. Here's mine:

Also - check the Kenwood website, I think a $100 rebate may still be running on it.

Ok thanks all. posted this earlier into a wrong forum

I'll compare them all then. Interesting that both Pioneers are now under 1K and here is a pretty cool picture that amazon has for one of them:

Thank You! I don't know how much installation will run. I imagine it will be pricey because there is some custom work that needs to be done. You won't need any other GPS system. The double din will come with GPS in it. I recomend going to sonicelectronicx.com they have double dins for really good prices. Then you will have to contact Loui for the dash kit. Let me know and I will give you his number. Just let him know Pasquale told you to call. He will really help. Then you will need a 5 or 6 channel amplifier and amp wiring kit. I did the reverse camera with mine. That is optional but, it is well worth it for a few extra bucks. I posted on another thread just last night about this. I will find it and post it on here for you.

Here is what I posted on another thread last night. If you need anymore info just ask and I will help as best as I can. Also if you think of doing it yourself I will send you the write-ups I used.

If you going to do it than I suggest you get everything you need right off the bat. I bought the Kenwood DNX7160 indash double din $876, Kenwood reverse camera $220, Alpine 5 channel amp $399 (was originally 599, my friend hooked me up at our local custom shop). Power wire, Ground, Remote wire, RCA wires $120 (You can get this cheaper, I just wanted the best for better sound quality). Dash Install kit $165 (optional $15 RCA wire plug that takes out any bad sound from your car. I suggest it on these cars.) The dash kit you can find on Ebay. The people you get the deck from wont have a kit. They are custom made. What you will pay for install I don't know cause I am doing it all myself.

Do your research before purchasing. I spent a month reading posts on installs and what screens were good and what wasn't. Kenwood or Poineer are the two best on the market right now. Check out sonicelectronicx.com for a screen. They have awesome deals. Also, you will see a lot of people have used the Jlaudio amp during their install. JL is a great company, I have used a lot of there products in the past. But, the cleanest sound comes from Alpine. The new Alpine pdx-5 is what I put in my car and it sounds amazing!!!!! Just search and choose what you think will be the best for your needs. If your budgeting the job I would say put most the money into the double din because if you skimp on that than you will end up with a system that was really no better than the stock deck you had. A lot of the cheaper screens have poor navi service and the bluetooth is all fuzzy and crapy etc.

Looking to do this type of install myself.

PoRsChE_ShIfTiN,

I'm looking to do the install of a head unit and amp myself on a 2004 996TT. Could you post the write-ups you used for your install? That would be very helpful. I'm just starting to acquire the pieces.

Aquinto i will gladly post a write up. I will do it once I get home. What have you gotten so far? Get the in dash kit off of eBay. It's the only place I know that sells it.

Can you still use the Bose Amp and speakers (and sub) with any of these GREAT new head units?

These installations look really good.

Thanks

The only way you can use the stock amp is if you get a fiber optic cable. They are about 625 dollars. The stock sub you can use. I have the Bose sub in my car also.
