Just fyi, the bypass pipes on Ebay SUCK. Or maybe I just got a bad batch. Fitment was horrible...... The tips were welded on at the wrong angle. It almost seems as if they just welded them on randomly. The materials are decent quality (stainless steel), but the fitment is questionable.

Skip the Ebay pipes and go to a muffle shop and have them make a custom set for you. It should cost LESS than the Ebay pipes, and they can weld the tips on according to how you want them positioned.

Hey Nine_Eleven, quick question. I currently have the bypass pipes on, and was thinking about going catless as well. I was wondering what the car sounds like at low rpms? Does it make the same burbling sound as the muffler bypass? I did the cat/muffler bypass when I had my NSX, but didn't keep it on for too long because the sound was "strange" at low rpms.

I wish there was a way to keep the loudness of a muffler/cat bypass combo, but with a more refined (high pitch) sound on the low end. Any ideas?

Go cat bypass with muffle bypass. Sounds awesome. At idle it's sounds good, not to loud. at 900rpm. The drone is at 2000-2100rpm then high pitch after 4000rpm. Sounds nice if you shift at 3000rpm. Sounds like a cup car after 4000rpm. I'll try to post videos of idle and normal shifting. I love mine.

I know alot of people don't like it loud. I do...

Please dont drill holes in your exhaust...lol And dont use muffler bypasses! For awhile before Turbocharging my 996, I ran Cat-Deletes and Afterhour Mufflers, at first I loved the sound, sounded so nice but after awhile that loud exhaust and droning gets so annoying, especially when you set off car alarms the next block over and when doing 70mph on the highway and you can even hear the radio. Just save up and by a nice muffler system, first of all CHEAP & PORSCHE dont go together in the same sentence and if your going to by some cheap setup, your better off selling that Porsche and buying a Honda Civic so you can afford the upgrades... There is tons of manufactures of mufflers but remember its like clothing or watches or anything else, your going to get what you pay for and name brand is quality. Tudi without a doubt is the best muffler system available for Porsche. Every Porsche I have heard drive off with Tubi exhaust has left me goosebumps.

Attached is photos of my Afterhours exhaust system and video before I Turbocharged it.

On the air intake, put a K&N replacement filter in, it'll keep the original box in place.

+1 on Fister....

Just got mine installed and drove it yesterday.

FANTASTIC! Especially for the price. I also got the ceramic coating in the Titanium color. The cans had a little surface rust and this coating should make them last for a long time.

Don't hesitate, just get your Credit Card out and get in touch with Darin.

Also have to comment on the quality of the welds.....first rate!

I've had both Cargraphic and Eisenmann mufflers on past 996s. On my current car I had a local shop do the Fister style exhaust mod, I can honestly say that I'm just as happy with the sound. It is actually very similar to the Eisenmann. The only benefit that you don't get with the Fister mod is weight loss, most aftermarket mufflers are significantly lighter than the OEM cans.

Question if you don't mind. With the bypass pipes installed do you reinstall the OEM setup through OEM mufflers to pass smog inspection in CA. I really want to go with the fabspeed bypass pipes but really don't want the headache of having to switch from OEM to bypass every 2 years. THanks...Or am I way off and either have nothing to do with each other. Bypass and smog inspection.
Garrett..

If you want to pass CA smog, go with Fister D partial muffler bypass or Fabspeed muffler bypass. Cat bypass or even 200 cell sport cats will trigger CEL and fail smog.

Even for pure sound, be careful as a high flow set-up will be *** loud! I ran K&N CAI, 200 cell cats, and regular Fister D for a week as a daily driver and it got old really fast. Had to have Darin customize a more restrictive muffler bypass to find the ideal sound.
