I followed this video and had no problems:

I took apart the entire overhead console and came at it from the top. You still have to take the map light cover off to replace the center light though. This way I could get the whole unit on a bench with good light. It does "swing" open. If I recall pull back and down on the front end. Mine was on tight. But be careful...the map light cover is fragle.

Go to ebay and do a search - some sellers package up the lights for our specific cars. That is what I did and got exactly what I needed for the whole car for around 50 bucks...
