doesn't seem to be anything protecting the cones from the engine heat? I thought the point of a CAI was to get some extra horses by reducing heat-soak? or maybe this isn't sold as a CAI?

there has been many intake kits from k&n, fabspeed and others
i dont think any of them offer better performance gains than stock. stock filter is big and draws cold air out of engine bay. these days, everyone has dyno claims. but i would attribute those gains from variance in dyno pulls.

Fabspeed cup air intake...this is stated (quickly) at 0:14 to 0:17 of the clip. http://www.fabspeed.com/996_GT3_48.html

I got this reply from a comment I posted on the vid:
Jeff go ahead and email me @ Joey@fabspeed.com. You can call us directly at 215-646-495. I do have a system available for your 996 Carrera and the power gains are immense. Fabspeed now has the Comp intake available for the 996 Carrera, 996 GT3, 997 Carrera, 997.2 Carrera, and we are working on the intake for the 997 GT3.
I went to the Fabspeed website & saw the Comp intake for the 996 and 997 and they do not look like the one in the video. The one in the video looks like its the GT3 comp intake, but the car in the video is a 997 C2s right? Will the comp GT3 intake fit the 996 & 997 C2's?

I remember reading an article objectively testing the different filters on a flow bench and this is what I got from it:
-Stock element flows as much as aftermarket when clean(this is the key)
-Stock filters better than any aftermarket element(common sense)
-Aftermarket is often reusable and washable
-Stock element can have it's restrictions once modified engines come into the mix(heads, cams, FI, etc)
-Subpar intake designs can affect overall flow characteristics of stock system vs aftermarket(such as tube bends, accordians, intake resonators, etc.)
-Aftermarket can lose hp from heat soak if not shielded properly from heat
-Aftermarket can shift the powerband and modify certain peak attributes(can be good or bad depending on application)
Personally for stock to mildly modified engines, I like to run the stock element and know that it's doing a better job at filtration and just change it more often. If there is a miminal 1-2 hp loss on stock, it's not enough to justify it for me.
On the other hand, if I'm driving a not so well engineered car(think American, no offense), I might be inclined to get an aftermarket unit if I feel the intake design was a subpar design to begin with and can be proven.
I see a lot of guys buy "presents" for their cars. Just remember the engine is like a big pump. If you are not increasing the flow on the output side substantially(and assuming the manufacturer engineered a proper intake to match the current engine's output) I don't really see a need.
Just my $.03

who cares about power gain if any.IMO..I didn't expect any from the the red tube so it wouldn't make any diff. for me..but this one look sweet..I want one if it were available for the 996 c2..

Hey Guys,
The intake in the video is designed for the 2009+ DFI cars, and it will not work on the 996 and 997.1 cars. Fabspeed does have an intake designed for the 996/997 as you can see in the pictures I attached. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me directly. Special pricing for 6_speed members.
