New Shoes

Well, I finally got around to installing my 19" Carrera Classics on my C2 Cab.
Tire sizes are as follows:
FR: Toyo Proxes 4 235/35/19
Rear: Toyo Proxes 4 295/30/19

I had the camber tweaked in the rear to try and get them in, but to me the rear might stick out a bit much for my liking. I may try rolling the fenders a bit, they seem to rub a bit on speed bumps. What do you guys think? It seems to be a massive rear tire for the car. Anyone else fit these rims on a C2 narrow body? I believe the offset was 55.

I tried to test fit some stock 19" lobster claws off a 997 NB and they wouldn't fit on the car in the back, they rubbed on the inside tie rod.

I am trying to get some Coilovers installed, that may help my cause.

Are they OEM 997 wheels? If so, the width/offset is listed near the valve stem. There is a widebody rear and narrowbody rear. I believe the widebody rear is 51 which will stick out too far.

The wheels look nice.
I have 997 18" WB wheels, rear 18x11 et 51 that I use in the winter on my 996 NB mk2 40th. My wheels appear like yours in the picture, but clear the fender (they never have rubbed) under compression with my US M030 susp and -1 camber.
Your mk1 car has a slightly different rear suspension that may be the slight difference on a stock suspension.
I would change the camber before rolling the fender. I don't think there is much fender to roll anyway.

Sure enough they say 11 51. I have already cambered them in as much as possible. Ill try rolling the fenders, and getting some coilovers installed, I might be able to make them work. The rubbing isn't very bad, unless i hit some big speed bumps.

I can just keep my 18 turbo's for track days.

how much camber are you running? i can get -2.5 on my stock (US M030) non lowered suspension in the rear. i can't imagine that a lowered suspension with coilovers would get you that much more camber to help you clear the fender.

I believe they said it was -1.5, I will ask them if they can camber them any more.

Does anyone know if they made the 19 Carrera classics with less than a 51 offset?

I tried a 19x11" Lobster claw off a 997 NB with 67 off set, it hit the inside of the wheel well to the point where the tire wouldn't turn.

Yea...the only thing I can think of is your tires....factory rears are close to a 25inch radius.....295/30/18...or equiv...on the 996's (not sure about 987/997).. you've got 295/30/19's....radius of 26inch...which is a full inch taller....maybe that's why you're rubbing?....just a guess

I don't think they have 295/25/19's so maybe try a 305 or 315 in a 25 profile tire?

If you adjust the camber to much you'll go thru tires quicker than you'd like. I'd sell these and get a set with the correct offsets....something safer like:

Front 19 x 8.5 et. 45 (235/35)
Rears 19 x 11 et. 60 (305/25)

you can cheat a couple more mm from there...

that could have been solved with spacers.
however, lobsters don't look as good as the classics you have now.

Thanks everyone for all of the advise.

I have thought about the 305/25/19's but think those will just push the tire out a bit to far.

If I was to do it again, this is the route I would go, but I am a bit stuck with these wheels and tires.

Prefer these over the lobsters too. Looks nice
I agree

I have learned a lot through all of this, but at this point its form over function, and will stick with what I have. Ill just live with the "rub" its not that often, and I have the 18's around for the occasional track day.

In my opinion these Carrera classics are the quintessential Porsche wheels. Love um...

You may want to see if someone on the board would be willing to exchange narrow for wide rears..too much risk driving on this setup...
