First Time Oil Change

I'm going to do my own oil change for the first time and found this link: http://p-car.com/996/diy/oilchange/. I was wondering if the part numbers are the same for WB as the NB. If there is anything recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated. I think I read somewhere about a LN Engineering drain plug? What is the benifits of getting one? I'm looking for part numbers for the sealing ring, drain plug, filter, and o ring. Anyone using 5 40w oil in the New England area? I got a slight oil leak(about a drop a week) and was wondering if it might take care of the problem. Thanks in advance.

Boston,
I just did an oil change on my 2002 C4S last week. Here is my Pelican Parts order. Be sure to get a filter tool as well. My filter canister was a pain in the a$$ to get off. It's fits really tight in the last half turn. I've heard that these are hit and miss on fit from Porsche. I will be switching to the LN filter conversion soon. I run Syntec 5-40, and I'm in SoCal where it's warm. My manual calls for 10-40, but my last three changes from two different shops were for 5-40 so I stuck with it. No problems and no metal debris in the filter from the last change. It's as simple as it gets. 9.3 quarts of oil and you should be set.

996-107-225-60-M45 $11.50 1 $11.50 Hengst (OEM) Oil Filter Insert (Filter Cartridge and Seal), 996 Carrera/Carrera 4 (2002-05), Each Brand: Hengst ----------------------------------------------------------------------
LN-106-07 $22.89 1 $22.89 Billet Aluminum Hard Anodized Magnetic Bigfoot Drain Plug (two sealing rings included), 996 Carrera 2/4 (1999-04), Each ----------------------------------------------------------------------
900-123-106-30-M131 $0.25 3 $0.75 Oil Drain Plug Sealing Ring, 18 x 24 x 1.5mm
----------------------------------------------------------------------
996-107-225-60-OEM $26.75 1 $26.75 Genuine Porsche Oil Filter Insert (Filter Cartridge and Seal), 996 Carrera/Carrera 4 (2002-05), Each Brand: Genuine Porsche

I just ordered all my parts from Pelican for my 1st oil change which too me seems pretty easy. The above list is the correct and here is a great video of the whole procedure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nMi2-nHXYE

Is there a reason why you ordered the Porsche cartridge and seal and the Hengst cartridge and seal or were you just giving me options to choose from?

Thanks for the video. Looks as simple as every other oil change.

I ordered both cartridges to see the difference between them. They look identical, just a huge difference in price. I would not be surprised if Hengst made the Porsche filter.

I'm ordering the LN filter conversion for my next oil change as that cartridge was a pain to get off and the filter cartridge costs are high.

I ordered the Porsche oil filter kit from Suncoast Porsche as it was $9 less then Pelican Parts.

What brand of oil did you go with? It's either Mobile 1, Castrol, or Motul 5W40. I know there is much debate on what oil to use.

You might also look at the Purolator L25316. It look identicle to the OEM filter too.

I used 5w-40 Castrol Syntec. My local shop used this in my last oil change and after reading the LN Engineering site, Castrol was in my opinion the best choice that is easy to find.

Motul is high on the list as is Redline, but Mobil 1 seems to have changed their blend and has fallen out of favor in this debate. In the end I think if you change oil every 5K it probably makes no difference unless you run your car hard at the track.

In all my research, it seems that the worst thing for the engines is to let them sit in the garage. ;-)

That was my problem. I let it sit in the garage for about 2 years. It needs to get on the road and I intend to put some good miles on it. Parts are ordered and I should be able to get it done by next weekend. I started her up last week for the first time in about 10 months and she fired right up. Once the services are done, I maybe looking for some new shoes. =)
