How hard is it to change the MAF? (me)
How hard is it to change the MAF? (me)
Just curious.
I'm currently getting a PSM failure on my car. Couple things...could be the MAF, but also could be the suspension, not sure as to why at this point, but in the case it is the MAF, I'd like to try doing it myself.
Thanks!!

sooooooooooo easy. unclip the wiring, unscrew the torx screws on the MAF (security type torx, the one with the little post in the middle so you'll need the appropriate torx bit) insert new MAF. voila!
regarding PSM, it's tied to ABS and the e-gas right? well if there's anything that has gone wrong in that loop (MAF) it can affect PSM on the whole. don't think it has anything to do with the suspension since it is not wired onto the system.
correct me if i am wrong anyone.

So no worries there. But, if the MAF is gone because of something I did aftermarket wise, I certainly wouldn't expect Porsche to pay for it. That is on my dime, IMHO. If it happens to be unrelated, that is another story. I wish everyone had such a cool dealer as I with regard to tolerance of aftermarket stuff.

Robyn..no problem getting to the MAF with your SC. Look over to the right side of the engine and tightly tucked up there is the cone air filter attached to a short plastic sleeve. On that sleeve is the MAF. It should be facing the up position. If not. loosen the front and back "C" clamps on the housng and rotate the sleeve until you gan get at the MAF. An allen wrench (forgot what size) will remove the 2 screws holding it in. It is pressed in with an "O" ring so it might take some pulling to get it out. (Disconnect the cable to the MAF first).
I would remove it and spray it with electrical cleaner and put it back in before you try replacing it. I have the original one on my car with no problems. I use spit on the "O" ring before pressing it back into place. Tighten the "C" clamps back up.
What error codes are you getting anyway?
I would put your scanner on it and see what it's reading. It will be different than stock.

I figured I could just take it to Akkurat, cause they are so helpful; but I didn't want to a be an uneducated ninny if it was something I could do myself. I appreciate everyone's comments. Thanks so much!

Wow, I didn't realize it was such an easy task, thanks for the step by step! As far as codes, I don't know. When the dealer had the car, they cleared all the codes, but I haven't had an opporunity to ask him what they were (I'll do that tomorrow). However, a couple days later, the PSM failure came up (but no more ABS)again.

PS I had my brake light switch go out and it sent off PSM/ABS randomly....
