Need purchase advice please

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a 996 cab and could use the help of the experts on this board. Price constraints have me primarily looking at either a 1999 or 2000. Any concerns with getting the first model year of the series (1999)?

I came across this one on Autotrader and really like the look

http://www.raycoeuro.com/html/99Pors...lver/index.htm

What do you think is a reasonable price for it?

Also, can someone please help me better understand the RMS issue along with any other advice.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

That car does look nice with a lot of nice options. It's not cheap at that price for a 1999, but I don't really know what's fair for a car like this, and it does have a lot of expensive options.

I would recommend asking for a list of all the option codes and then doing a search on the forums to know exactly what the car has. It's amazing how dealers don't know about the cars they sell, so don't trust them to tell you. It's a sticker under the front hood. Have them send you a pic so they don't screw up writing the codes down.

If you buddy up with a dealer service writer (like one that you use for a Pre-Purchase Inspection) they can tell you all the work that has been done under warranty.

If it's had multiple RMS repairs, expect more. I would definitely make sure you can get an extended warranty of some kind on the car. I have used warrantydirect.com with good success in the past, but there are a lot of other companies that do the same thing. Even though it's out of factory warranty, they will probably warranty it with an inspection since it has so few miles.

very nice looking car, but i think it's over priced for 99. you should look somemore, and go on autotrader to get some idea on the pricing. good luck.

check out nearby dealerships. I got my '99 certified with a 2yr warranty for much less.

Very nice looking cab, has the updated tail lights, great options including areo, and very low milage. However for $51k you could probably move into range of an '00 or '01.

HP increased from 296 in '99 to 300 in '00 due to exhaust update.

I think that for $46 - 48k this car is a good deal.

I agree. 51 is too much. I got my 99 C4 with some nice options 3 years ago for about 54.
