996 PSM Expriences?

I wanted to see everyone experiences with PSM. I hate PSM on dry roads, when ever i try to do something crazy in no way does it help me. But I have found PSM works BEAUTIFULLY in the rain. One night I wanted to have some fun so has I has exiting a bautiful long windy off ramp, I gave her a little Scandinavian Flick, drifting a full circle off ramp with no effort. I wish I would have had a camera to have captured the Drifting Beauty that occurred that night. My expriences have shown me that on dry roads PSM always wants to cut power or slow me down, but on a wet road she is more then willing to play and let me have some fun.

Has anyone been able to drift or push the car really hard in dry weather with PSM?

I find it to be very unobtrusive.

Mine virtually never kicks in....but then I don't try drifting on public roads.

I do push it very hard up in the mountains.

I also had some wider 19" wheels and tires that made it freak out. I went back to 18" and stock size tires and it is fine.

I agree slows me down on the dry and I have x51 and 295 tires. There should be a middle setting.

I dont have PSM and I love it in the dry however I am a little nervous about giving her the ol' flick in the rain for fear of her going a little more than I want on a public road. not to change the subject but have you tried this in the rain with it off?

I have. I've done it in the snow too just to compare. It is very intrusive, and you'd be surprised how much you can still push it without PSM, even in the rain. Obviously it depends on your driving skill more than anything else. Also, I believe that PSM remains active, although less intrusive when it is switched off.

Personal opinion - -

If you are the average driver on public streets, there is no need to turn off the PSM. If it is kicking in, the car is telling you that you have reached the limit and it stops folks from getting into trouble they can't recover from. The Porsche PSM does not intrude at low limits. Take the intrusion as a wake up call and drive smoother. You can go VERY FAST without it getting in the way.

However, if you are the track junkie, different ballgame. The faster you drive, and the more capable you are, the more annoying it becomes. Ultimately, you can only learn so much with it turned on. If you want the car to really rotate, it has to be off. If you want to really explore limits, the nanny has to go.

Cool

^^^I agree with that 100%.

My first DE I did when I got my car, I was naturally going to cut it off, as you could not drive my previous car anywhere close to agressively with it's VDC on.

My instructor said "if you have to turn it off, you are not driving smooth enough. Once you reach anywhere near the cars potential, then we'll cut it off." So I learned to drive smoothly.

Now, I cut it off at the track, but can drive on the streets with it on with minimal inteference. I want my car stuck to the road like glue, with no drifting. lol
